april 19th update:

33-29 (0.532) NY 14th
33-30 (0.524) Utah 15th
32-30 (0.526) Philadelphia, Phoenix & Houston tied for 16th
29-32 (0.475) Milwaukee 19th
28-35 (0.444) Portland 20th
25-38 (0.397) Minnesota 21th

Go Bucks! Ok, Bucks, I can see what you're doing here, losing 4 out of the last 5.

--------------------------------------------------------------

In order to get MIL's 2nd round pick from Dooling's trade, the Bucks must have the best 16th record in the regular season (top 44 protected).

Right now, things are a little ugly, the Bucks hold the 21st record:

27-26 (0.509) Utah and NY tied for 16th
26-26 (0.500) Phoenix 18th
25-28 (0.472) Portland 19th
25-29 (0.463) Minnesota 20th
24-28 (0.462) Milwaukee 21th

tonight the Bucks play Washington. Go Bucks!

also tonight:

MIN @ SAC here's hoping for a King's win.
UTA @ POR as they can't both loose, the best case would be a Portland win.

It won't be easy, but with NY missing Amare and Lin, and the western teams probably tanking once Denver and Houston can build (hopefully) a bigger advantage in the standings, it could happen. And the Dooling trade would be a steal  ;D

Go Bucks, and Go Celtics!

Thank you.  I've been watching this for some time and mentioned it a few times in various threads but it doesn't seem to get much notice.  Knicks will try to hang on, but it will be tough to do so without Amare and Lin.

I think getting #45 in this draft means something.  If not a chance for another contributor, an asset that may be used to help the C's move up 1 or 2 spots.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me - I know 1st round picks separate playoff + lottery teams.  So if Milwaukee makes the playoffs they'll be the 15th pick even if a few Western lotto teams have better records.

Does the 2nd round work the same way, or is it just slotted by record?  A lot of people seem to think if Milwaukee makes the playoffs they'll be #45 automatically, but I (and apparently the OP) think they might actually need to have the 16th best record, which means they'd have to pass a few Western teams, not just the Knicks.

Anybody know for sure?

I believe your suspicions are correct, FWF:

http://www.nba.com/2011/news/04/15/draft.ties/index.html

Notice Indiana was a non-lottery team, but for the 2nd round, picked before the last two lottery teams. I suspect this was because the Pacers finished with a worse record, but still qualified for the playoffs.

Also, keep in mind: when ties are broken by coin flip, the team with the better 1st rounder ends up with the worse 2nd (and vice versa).

I think the Bucks need to finish this season on a tear for that pick to end up with Boston.

TP.

Is a loooong shot, but it'd be great for the Celtics.

TP for the research, thanks.  Yeah it doesn't look too likely that the Bucks will pull it off, but they've got a shot at least.

The Bucks are doing quite well, they've won the last two and they're now 2.5 games behind the Phoenix Suns who are holding the 16th best record.

Tonight the Knicks are playing in Orlando, if they loose and the Bucks beat the powerful Bobcats on friday, they will catch them for the 8th playoff spot. But hopefully they keep a close competition in which they're forced to win a lot of games to enter the playoffs in order to beat Phoenix and Utah for the 16th record.

It also would be good if Dallas, Houston and Denver put some distance between them and Phoenix and Utah so they can tank a little and fall behind the Bucks.

Go Bucks and Go Celtics!!

I'd rather let those teams you mentioned if they are facing the Clips. The clips pick is much more valuable than bucks'

Right now, the Bucks are playing to reach .500 if they manage to beat Portland. That would put them 1.5 games ahead the Blazers, too. At the half they're trailing by 9, but they play at home and are on a winning streak... go Bucks!

Phoenix is playing tonight, but they play against the Lakers and I won't root for a Laker win  ;) the Suns can loose every other game.

Utah and NY playing tomorrow, and if they loose things can get exciting for the 16th spot.

Go Bucks & Go Celtics!

What exactly were the terms of the trade for us to get this pick and Dooling for our Exception?

2012 second round draft pick from Milwaukee
Milwaukee's own 2012 2nd round pick to Boston (top 44 protected in the 2012 Draft). If Milwaukee's own 2012 2nd round pick is in the top 44 picks, then Milwaukee's obligations to Boston shall be extinguished. [Boston - Milwaukee, 12/9/2011]

by the way, Milwaukee by 6 and the ball with 8:00 left in the 4th quarter. Go Bucks!  ;)

Today's game are all looking great.

1. Celts get a solid win over Indy

2. Philly losing to Orlando helping our chances to lock up the division + 4th seed

3. Minny+Portland losing (and the bucks winning) to help our shot at that pick

4. Hopefully the lakers handle business against Phoenix, so the bucks can get a little more help =)

FYI, we have Milwaukee the last game of the season.  Depending on the situation, we may be able to tank a little to snag this pick.
do it

With the Knicks playing the next 2 games against Chicago and Utah playing the next 2 against San Antonio, the bucks have a good chance to overtake them both next week. Just need to get Phoenix to lose a few, and this pick will really be in play.

Though the Bucks pick may not be all that likely, it does raise a question: what's Danny likely to do with so many picks in this year's draft?

Whether three or four, that's a lot to add to a team that's looking like it may have the Boilermakers as essentially red-shirted rookies.

I think he's likely to make at least one trade with one pick--either to move up in the draft or in a trade for a veteran.

Having AB and GS develop so well this year has helped the situation, since they'll essentially be young vets next year--one a starter and one a top seven or eight rotational player--but I see Danny looking to add quality over quantity in this year's draft.
