Plus, wouldn't they have to renounce rights to Ryan ANderson to clear the room to offer Deron Williams a spot?
(keep in mind, my CBA is conversational, not fluent)
I think the theoretical way to clear cap space to sign D-Will involves:
-Waiving JJ Redick before his contract become guaranteed
-Using the stretch provision to say bye bye Big Baby
-Giving up whatever number of draft picks that will convince a team with cap space to take on Hedo Turkoglu's and Jameer Nelson's contract without sending salary back
-Some other transactions that may involve salary dumps of players such as Jason Richardson, Quentin Richardson, and Chris Duhon
The best case scenario probably looks like Howard, Williams, Anderson, a player signed with the room exception, a bunch of journeyman minimum salary veterans, rookies not drafted in the first round, and not much in the way of future first round picks. And maybe the Magic get Fran Vazquez to come over from Spain. They drafted him at #11 way back in 2005 and he could probably step in and start for a lot of NBA teams. It sounds like it would be reasonable to expect him to be a better player than, to give an example of another foreign big, Omer Asik if Vazquez made the jump to the NBA next season.
