If you were the GM of the Magic, how would you improve this team?

Step one is to do whatever it takes to finally get Fran Vazquez to play in the US.

Step two is to be willing to throw in two first round picks to get something useful for Hedo Turkoglu, either another overpaid player with a longer contract or a trade exception.

Why would I do that I am  a Celtic!  Maybe take this to Magicblog.com?

Ryan Anderson and Dwight for 2 2nd rounders if I had to.

if I where the magic gm, I would sign Ersan Ilyasova to start next to Dwight Howard, and trade Nelson and Ryan Anderson for a pg upgrade. Unfortunately for them, BBD is virtually untradable.

if I were the magic GM, I would make a HARD push for steve Nash in the off-season...imo he would make that team a contender.

Nash would be able to control the ball, and make the smart decisions that the team is currently lacking offensively and control the pace of the game...imagine nash driving and either dishing to d.howard or passing out to an open man??

a pass-first pg like Nash would do wonders for that team.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Howard, Anderson, Nelson, Richardson, and Turk for our bench.
I like Marcus Smart

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.

Trade Dwight Howard and Glen Davis for everything you can grab (blue chip prospects, 1sts, expirings, etc..), and get rid of Otis Smith, so on the next cycle you don't do this all over again.

Trade Turk and two firsts to Boston (or some other team with cap space)

Trade Nelson to some team who has cap space for a 2nd round pick.

Let Redick go to get cap space.

Sign Deron Williams as a free agent.

Sign Ryan Anderson to a long term contract (after you sign Deron).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Will they have the cap space to do that? They're what...12 million over the cap now? Hedo+Nelson is like...18? Reddick is another..6? And he doesn't come off the books until 2013.

Plus, wouldn't they have to renounce rights to Ryan ANderson to clear the room to offer Deron Williams a spot?

(keep in mind, my CBA is conversational, not fluent)

I think the theoretical way to clear cap space to sign D-Will involves:

-Waiving JJ Redick before his contract become guaranteed
-Using the stretch provision to say bye bye Big Baby
-Giving up whatever number of draft picks that will convince a team with cap space to take on Hedo Turkoglu's and Jameer Nelson's contract without sending salary back
-Some other transactions that may involve salary dumps of players such as Jason Richardson, Quentin Richardson, and Chris Duhon

The best case scenario probably looks like Howard, Williams, Anderson, a player signed with the room exception, a bunch of journeyman minimum salary veterans, rookies not drafted in the first round, and not much in the way of future first round picks.  And maybe the Magic get Fran Vazquez to come over from Spain.  They drafted him at #11 way back in 2005 and he could probably step in and start for a lot of NBA teams.  It sounds like it would be reasonable to expect him to be a better player than, to give an example of another foreign big, Omer Asik if Vazquez made the jump to the NBA next season.
