I'm not so high on Rivers, but I might be more positively inclined if he used a lot of profanity in describing how much he would hate it if the Heat or Lakers made a trade to move up and draft him.
"The worst thing that ever happened in sports was sports radio, and the internet is sports radio on steroids with lower IQs.” -- Brian Burke, former Toronto Maple Leafs senior adviser, at the 2013 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference

Quote
Austin Rivers – The top recruit in all of high school basketball has his sites set on the big show. “Well, I’ve met Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen—you name it. A lot of people ask me who I’ve met through my dad, and they’re in awe when they hear the names of the players, but I’ve never looked at it like that. It’s cool meeting all of them, but I really want to be in their situation one day. I don’t want to just meet LeBron, I want to destroy him on the court one day.

 ;)

One thing I like about Austin that people seem to brush over is that Doc is his father.

You know Doc is going to push him hard, wont accept excuses and will call him out on his mistakes. He will humble him completely which I think is huge no matter where he goes.

What kind of support system do other potential young stars have? Usually they have a sense of entitlement and have there butts kissed by anyone they've ever encountered.

People say Austin isn't a defender right now and Doc has already called him out on that. I think this type of motivation factor will absolutely push Austin now and into the future.

He may not be a top prospect at the moment but I think this aspect of Rivers seems to be a very overlooked thing.

I really like Austin and think he's going to be a good pro... but the evolution of Avery Bradley has made me think about going in a different direction with the draft.

I would LOVE if Meyers Leonard could fall to us...

And what if Austin doesn't respond very well to that?

Well I was mainly talking about other teams. Are you talking about him not responding well if he were on the Celtics or for any team?

I 100 % think he would respond well on another team, im sure he took a lot of his fathers advice and critiques while at Duke (and probably his whole life growing up).

I think it would be trickier with the Celtics but not as difficult as people will assume. He would absolutely be held accountable for everything he would do and would be under a microscope as far as people looking for something going wrong with their relationship. I just think it couldn't be much worse than someone like Cousins or Bynum. Or Pierce back in the day with Doc or Rondo recently with Doc.

You could look at it and say could cause issues with the players but Doc is one pf the most respected coaches in the league, he is a brutally honest coach, and apparently is the coach that most players want to play for so I think he had a lot of things going for him in that respect

I meant what if Doc did hold him to defense and hold him to being a team player--and Austin didn't take it well or respond positively on or off the court to it?

You can say he'd be okay in Boston because Doc would hold the line with him--but then there's a risk that that doesn't work out.  Tricky dynamics.

And yeah, I think it'd impact Doc's relationship with the rest of the players, too, as there'd be no question about Doc having a 'favorite'.
