If Austin gets drafted before us, would you trade both first rounders to get him? I say yes. I dont see the clippers pick (around 20) becoming anything great. trade 2 ok players to get a potential star.

rondo - bradley

allen  - rivers

that would be the best rotation of guards in the league by far. ray allen would get more rest from a developing rivers and further developing bradley

Firts let's state the obvious - Ray Allen is not playing for the Celtics next year, or ever again most likely.  He will get too much money somewhere else.

Now on to your question...

I like Austin Rivers' game.  Obviously we know Doc will be pushing hard to draft him, if we can.

But you never give up 2 first rounders in the late-teens, early 20's, to pick up one player who may be a late-lottery pick.

Sorry.

This pretty much works for me, though I'm not quite as sure about what's going to happen with Ray.

I absolutely would trade two picks in the early 20's for a late lottery pick if it was the right player.  Austin Rivers is not the right player though.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I wouldn't want Austin to be on the Celtics.. The whole Father/Son thing is going to be a mess, especially with Rondo still on the team..

I could just picture Rondo and Austin fighting over Doc.. It'd almost be like two brothers going at it over who Doc loves more..

Then of course, if they ever did actually get in a fist fight.. Rondo would whoop lil Rivers' behind and prolly get traded.. and we're left with baby Rivers who isn't really that great anyway.. from what I've seen atleast.

I'm not sure what everyone sees in Austin Rivers. He seems like a poor man's Stephon Curry. And I'm not a big Curry fan.

In a word, no.  At this point in time he's not worth it.  At this point in time he's not even considered in the top 2 or 3 at his position (whatever that position is) by most experts.  He is not a true PG nor is he a true SG.  So he'd be sort of like Bradley but a better shooter and not as good defensively.  Maybe workouts will change things...

The question here involves early 20's, not late teens, but I disagree--as I think it depends entirely on how good you expect that player to be.  If an unrecognized LBJ or whomever were falling to the late lottery, you'd certainly use the #20 and #21 to move up for him.  I just don't think AR is that guy.

I have flip flopped on the Cs future including Austin Rivers. Before the Avery Bradley explosion I was a huge advocate for trading for Rivers. I still would trade up for him if he falls past 15. He is a top ten talent and would be a great trading chip for the Cs in the future. However with Avery's recent growth I don't think the Cs would have the minutes to play and develop both to there full potential. There is then the added stress placed on the team with Austin being docs son.

I'm going to go philosophical here. Why not? There is no reason to rule out such a possibility in such an early stage.
Austin seems to have a great potential to be mined. He isn't a ready to go superstar, but you'd not be getting that kind of player with late first round picks.
I'm sure that if Doc wants to see Austin in his team, he'll try to come up with a rotation solution before we get to the draft.

Ummm no... the fact that we know no FA center is coming here in the offseason, and we dont have the assets to trade for one... this draft DA better draft a center. Forget all this trading up for rivers stuff, if anything I think another year in college would have been beneficial for him. If we trade up, theres a ton of other people id go for in that range.  I mean if doc wasnt coach would anyone be making these threads?...seriously?

I would like to package the picks for a better one ; but not to obtain Austin Rivers
