Rivers also discussed the possibility of being drafted by the Celtics and being coached by his father Doc.

"It would have to be one of those things that if you are off the court then it's father-son and when you are on the court it's strictly business."

doesn't sound like he would be totally against it like many on here suggest. I don't think it matters anyways because he will likely be gone before # 17-20

Update:

Quote
“I am going to say, ‘Danny, you better draft him,’ ” Doc Rivers said, referencing Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. “Jokingly. And he could be, that could actually happen and if it happens, it happens. We’re going to do what’s best for the team. I’m just not going to answer my phone. Because my wife will be calling.”

Looks like Doc wouldn't be against it either.....

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Did you honestly expect anything other than a politically correct answer?

There's no way he falls to mid to late first round. No chance at all.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

Agreed.  Rivers didn't have a great year at Duke but it's not like he had a bad one either.  Way too much potential to drop to where people are projecting him now.  He'll go in the mid to late lottery.

I have to agree. Avery Bradley was the #2 recruit or so out of high school and slipped to like 19 after a pretty mediocre year at Texas. Austin was #1 and had a half way decent year at Duke.  That would put him more in the 12ish range I'd think.

15pts, 3reb, 2ast per game as a freshmen is pretty great to me... especially since his team didn't have anything close to a top notch post presence.

Only think he could have done better with was his free throws.

Eh, Plumlee's no Thomas Robinson but he's projected as a 1st too.  Not a bad #1 big for a college squad.

Rivers played well overall and showed some flashes of dominance but also looked a little selfish and erratic at times, and had the FT problem too.  It's as much that he isn't the new hot hyped-up prospect like he was last year as anything else, but he showed a few flaws.  I think the GMs will correctly slot him between last year's overrating and this year's underrating.

I know Doc was half joking, but it doesn't sound like they would shy away from drafting him .

If he is there I think you have to take him

A back-court core of Rondo,Bradley and Rivers would be such a young, athletic dynamic back court for the next 5+ years. You would have a elite distributor and defender , another elite defender who can run the floor and is developing a consistent J(Bradley), and a potential big time 1 on 1 player with Rivers.

Sign Ray for 1 or 2 more years to bring Rivers and Bradley along.

Doubt he's there when we pick - unless either us or the Clippers really struggle down the stretch. However, there's always the possibility of packaging our 2 1st round picks to move up. Not sure if Austin would be the target, but we could conceivably move up into the top 10-12 via a trade.

I'd take Terrence Ross instead, but there should be some big guys at that first pick that will make it tough to draft small.

As far as Ross vs Rivers and upside, I'm gonna go with the kid who wasn't raised by an NBA player and coach, with an indoor regulation court (or whatever), practicing in NBA arenas with nba players all his life, with 2 D-1 older brothers to play every day with.

Rivers has some natural, physical talent, like a quick first step and longish arms for an undersized 2. But much of what Rivers brings is a refined skill set developed under ideal conditions. I think he is closer to his ceiling than most freshmen, and he also should be a sophomore, age-wise.

I also think Rondo + Rivers = 1 too many diva cooks in the kitchen.

Why wouldnt they want to play for each other? If hes on the board and hes the best option then sure we should take him, if there is something better for the team im hoping Danny and Doc would make the right move and do whatevers best for the team.

Honestly, I don't want Danny to draft Austin. I know a ton of people are really high on him, but I'm not sold. While he's a pretty good 1v1 scorer, he's below average in everything else (turnovers, assists, steals, 3's, rebounds). I can't see him being that great at the NBA level.
