What do you guys think of Royce White from Iowa State?

He announced his intent on going pro today and Draft Express has him as a late first rounder.

Don't know him but the more 1st round projections the merrier.

He probably wouldn't get close to the freedom offensively he got at Iowa State.  He was essentially a point power forward.  He's unselfish beyond a fault.  He gave up way too many good shots last season.

If he dropped about 10lbs, he might be quick enough to play 3.

I doubt he'd get drafted in the first round because of the mental baggage (anxiety disorder) and that he has a history of lacking conditioning.  But if he dropped to us in the second round...He'd be a potential steal.

Kid can ball it up.  The flight fear is a big issue.  May have to treat him like BA if we get him.

There's a whole other subforum for discussing the draft.  There's even a thread about Royce White.

My personal thought is that I prefer Yancy Gates as a big with baggage who is projected as a second-rounder.

I know people who know Royce personally. The dude flies for games all of the time. He just avoids it if possible. He just drove to the NCAA tournament because he had relatives driving there also.

Nice story

I think we need to have a draft Royce White movement.

I havent seen one college player other than Antony Davis that Id rather have.

Thinking about the Celtics taking him more and more.  It has the potential to be a home run.

The ball handling and passing skills he has are really rare for a big.

Kind of like the rebounding skills that Rajon...very rare.

I say take him with one of the picks.

He is a headcase, and I think his talent is overrated.  He has a well rounded game, but he is not great at anything, is not explosive, and looks like a tweener to me.  He is the kind of guy you take a flyer on in the second round, because if he can get his head right, he could be a useful player...like a smaller Boris Diaw...but in the first round he is not worth it.

I think people are pumping him up by saying he would be a lottery pick if he didn't have character issues.  I think if he didn't have character issues, his talent would get him drafted in the late teens or twenties.  With the issues, he drops IMO.

Has there ever been a borderline 2nd round pick thats been talked about this much by celticnation??

The only thing i know for sure about Royce White is that Chris DOES NOT think he's going to live up to the hype, haha.

Oh, and I thought you were talking about Draymond Green. haha
Royce got game. 1st round game. Even in a so-called deep draft like this.

he was discussed in an earlier thread.

physically he is great. also smart and works the ball well. lots of pluses.

but those minuses...whoa.

besides the character issues and brushes with the law, he has chemically based emotional problems, such as fear of flying.

also, in terms of basketball skills, he is very poor shooter and ft shooter as well. how bad? i think his free throw shooting is somewhere around 49%. yes, that bad.

he is an interesting prospect, but loaded with serious red flags.

a real gamble i think.

nbadraft.net has the Celtics taking White at 22 and draftexpress has him at 25.  Seems to me that seems like a reasonable spot for him based on his talent and physical tools.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
