KG Wants C's to Resign Stiemsma Next Year

I wouldn't mind having him back, but it will be nice if he can bulk up a lot, certainly would help him long term defending big centers like Dwight

We have a pretty small sample size of him, but he has contributed more than most 3rd string bigs in the league.

He had a couple good games recently but let's see him keep it up and get better

I think its great for Stiemer to get the run he is getting -- but not so good for the C's.  He is an endearing player for sure, and I think a gifted shot-blocker.  However, right now you want him as your 3rd string C not your primary back-up to an out of position starter (I say this despite all that KG has given since taking on the starting 5 role).   

But good for Greg to be getting minutes that will help his development.  He works, he tries and he contributes a bit and rarely embarrasses himself - that's great for a 3rd stringer, but not enough for the role he is playing.

Steamroller will be back in the NBA next year.  He's definitely capable of being a backup center and you can see his improvement as the year has gone along.  What's the number? I don't know, but I'd like a multi-year deal to lock him up and we still will need a 5 going forward.

KG is often pretty harsh on big man teammates, so this kind of praise from him really means something.  Stiemsma's not going to be an All-Star, but a hard worker sets the tone for everyone else, in and out of games. 

I hope we see him back in green too, especially if it's pretty cheap - he'd be a nice backup C for the near future.

Look, I like Stiemsma enough too, he has size, some skills and seems to work, and I would like to keep him for short, low money. But he does not set the tone for anybody much less everybody. Let's stop Tommying him. Nice kid.

His shotblocking is above average, but his rebounding rate is nothing special, his true shooting percentage is well below average (.463) and his turnover ratio is high (top 10 among centers). Above average assist ratio.

I have no problem with Stiemsma as a backup center who plays 8-10 minutes a night. But this is not a future starter we're talking about. I feel like people are thinking this is some rookie gem with plenty of potential. He's a rookie, but he's 26 and has been playing professionally - albeit not in the NBA - for a few years now. He pretty much is what he is. A 7 footer who can block shots and fit in (not to be taken for granted) while not adding much else. He'll give you that for another 4-5 years, but it's not something you need to pay more than about $1.5 mil a year for given the new CBA.

No worries (TP) - I do like hard workers generally, and I think they're good elements to have on the team on and off the court.  And I hope we don't have to completely start from scratch at the 5 next year.  I agree that anything over a couple mill a year is seriously pushing it for his value, though.

First, please tell me for whom Stiemsma could start.

Other than blocked shots and hustle, both of which are great, Stiemsma has a long way to go. He still cannot guard a big man one-on-one and his offense is still lacking. In addition, he turns the ball over at a pretty high rate. Right now he is a good third string center and I would not mind having him on the Celtics for the right price. Not $3 million a year.
