But more than that, it is the work that he has put into his game that has Kevin Garnett singing his praises.

"Steamboat's coming in, giving us what we need whether that's from his effort, his fight every night; whether it's blocking shots, rebounding, actually hitting the 15, 16-footers, being aggressive. That's what we need from him," Garnett said.

"He's been big for us since we've been coming down this stretch; second half he's been even more reliable. He's playing good basketball. We're all happy for him, just because you want to see the hard workers and the grinders of the league get an opportunity and he's taking his."

And Stiemsma's play, Garnett believes, should be rewarded this summer.

"I truly hope that Danny (Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations) rewards him at the end," said Garnett of Stiemsma. "If not us, somebody at the end of the year, gives him something long term to where he can build off of, substantial."

Wouldn't mind him coming back as a 3rd sting center and insurance, but wouldn't give him anything long term.

Really nice of KG to say, and I bet it means the world to Stiemsma. Not that it'll necessarily translate into enhanced play, but you gotta feel great for this kid - he's been through a lot, and gets paid a fairly high compliment by one of the greatest team players of all time.

See exact opposite of the kg on teague thread i.e. pacers rookies
I want Stiemsma back next year as our backup center.  I feel he has been improving all year and an off season with a big man coach would do him wonders.  Work on the low post defense and develop a hook shot or something on the block.

Something like this and kg grabbing the box score when rondo did the crazy triple double are things the "youngsters" aren't going to fully appreciate until kg retires and people (and players) look back at his career as one of the best players ever.

Whether he's in Boston or not, Steamer's not going to back to Europe or the D-league.  The guy has certainly proven that he's a legitimate NBA big, if not exactly someone you want in your starting line up.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
3 years 9 Million, Steamer gets paid has some type of financial security. Small movable contract for the Celtics that can't possibly harm them. Every one is happy.

3 years and 9 million for a guy who's played at the level of a third string center?

Anthony Toliver level money but with another year, no thanks.

Yeah agreed, he'll be on someone's roster for certain.

I think this should be a lock. Also, please re-sign KG for 2 years at 10-12 per.

I would easily do a 3 year deal worth 6 mill. Make each year 2 mill. I am not saying he is Perk, but Danny was very wise when he signed Perk in 2006-07 to his, I believe it was, 16 mill over 5 years. Something like that. We got great value there. Could be the same with Steamer if he keeps developing some more.

He's earned another minimum contract, which isn't nothing.

He needs to develop a few more rotation quality skills to warrant more than that.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Perk was 21 years old going into his fourth year in the league and had already been a starter in the league when the Cs extended his contract. Stiemsma just made the league for the first time at 26 as a third string/emergency and now backup center. Two years, $2.5-$3 million is reasonable. Then you have his Bird rights IF he turns into anything.
Go Celtics.

KG is often pretty harsh on big man teammates, so this kind of praise from him really means something.  Stiemsma's not going to be an All-Star, but a hard worker sets the tone for everyone else, in and out of games.

I hope we see him back in green too, especially if it's pretty cheap - he'd be a nice backup C for the near future.

Look, I like Stiemsma enough too, he has size, some skills and seems to work, and I would like to keep him for short, low money. But he does not set the tone for anybody much less everybody. Let's stop Tommying him. Nice kid. Nice kid doesn't mean you give him 3 years and $6 million for no reason. If somebody offers that and you have to match (he's restricted), sure, you think about it but 2 years and $3 million should be fine.
Go Celtics.
