Oden's agent says he is focusing on rehabbing, and would consider making a return with the Pacers.

TP. lol

But could the Celtics offer him a contract like they did with Gaffney/Lafayette? That is, sign him after the playoff elegibility deadline, for the rest of the season at the prorated min and an extra non-guaranteed year.

Why for Oden? he could rehab while being involved with the Celtics franchise.

Why for the Celts? take a chance on Oden at a reduced price tag.

I don't know anything about medicine, but Boston has a great reputation. Maybe they could sign some kind of partnership agreement with some of the best hospitals. With our injury luck, it would pay its dividends.
Seriously, I think the fact heart issues are discovered is a sign of excellent medical staff. Oden wouln't find a better place (other than Phoenix and their magical doctors) to a fresh new start.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
For no more than a 1-2 year @ 3 million a year or lower. That I believe is a good gamble. Anything more expensive that that then I'll pass.

TP for the "His shot is in Phoenix with their medical staff". People over there are like video game healers, fixes anything.

Oden doesn't need a hospital but rather a miracle.

If we sign him and he is injured, he is still taking up space on the 15 man roster.  We are going to be loaded with unseasoned rookies next year in all likelihood so I think we are going to want those roster spots or we will have no place to put the rookies.  Moore+JJJ+Pick(ours)+Pick(clips)+Pick(one 2nd)+Oden, that is just too many slots to be tied up in development.  I just don't see it.

Take a chance . . .

Time to start over. Whether it be Rondo or not, he can be traded in the off-season if we as an organization don't think he is "our guy" to build around. We need to let Ray and KG walk, and use their money to grab a free agent or two. If we let them walk, I'm sure Pierce will throw a fit and we can deal him for some young talent and a draft pick. I doubt we can get full value for him, but I'd take what we can get at this point.

Three moves we should make:

1) Sign Terrance Williams
2) Sign Greg Oden
3) Draft a SG and PF/C with our draft picks. (Our original and Clippers pick)

Williams has been buried on the bench for the Rockets for awhile and they finally cut their losses, I say grab him and let him get some run this year off the bench, but for the future he could pay off. He's an elite athlete.

As for Oden, maybe I'm being a little optimistic here, but  what do we have to lose? We're at ground zero at center here. I doubt he will ever be a legit starting center, but who's to say he can't help us off the bench defensivley for the future. If I was Ainge, I grab him. Theres nothing to lose at this point.

Just me with my rant.

oden has had like 4 major knee surgeries ,I don't know why so many people on here think he is somehow going to have a miraculous recovery.

He is cooked and probably won't even play next year anyways

I agree with your other points though, sign twill and have a good draft, but whatever Danny does, he should keep a ton of cap space open for 2013 when the free agent class is going to be MUCH stronger than this years .

He hasn't done much of it, but I've watched him play here in PDX. Sad thing is that he is a legit monster on the boards and can post up.

His body is crippled. He will never play again, or he'll breakdown if he plays more than a season or two. Sad sad story.  I've seen him at Buffalo Wild wings (his favorite restaurant) a couple times, both time he was in crutches. I feel bad for the guy, his body never gave him a chance. He really tried to rehab each time, just a shame..

2-3 are horrible.  Plenty have said enough about Oden, but the Celtics should just take the best player available, regardless of position.  Don't reach if there are no bigs who are appropriate for a pick.  Look to move down and pick up an extra second round pick, if necessary.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Unfortunately it seems that he has a problem with the length of his legs- like a lot of these giants.
I think his left left is longer than his right left and it will forever cause him problems.

I would take him for small money while we are developing. We will have so much cap space after we fail getting Dwight and hit the lottery.
Give him 2-3 years to develop and see if we can bag a comeback monster.
Physically I just don't think he belongs on a basketball court.
Such a sad story.

Read that last line again. One more time.

1. AGREED. Guy who can run and has the tools and the effort to play defense. It should be done.

2. For no more than 2 years and no more than 3-4 million a year. He's undeniably talented but can't stay healthy. So for a two year tryout at 3-4 mil (which I think is pretty high enough), I believe it's an okay gamble.

3. Pietrus for me is a good enough SG. Sure, he ain't hitting his shots now but he know the system already and could come in cheap. Brandon Rush is another name, who is a FA. So I don't think we should use our picks for a SG. Drafting Jae Crowder though is a great idea. But I'd really have these guys for our two picks.
