"Rebuild!" "Blow it up!"

Are people not aware that by not trading away expiring contracts and draft picks, knowing the contracts that are off the books after this season, who is still under contract, the team will be incredibly flexible, different, have a multitude of options after this season? There is no need to blow it up. The whole team has been structured to have a rupture after this season.

Calls to blow it up make no sense. How do you blow up something that will already be dismantled?

What is the other option, take on bad contracts in exchange for expirings that mean The C's can't rebuild?

Flabbergasted.

You guys amuse me on here. Did you think we were gonna land Dwight Howard? Danny played this exactly how he should- dont give up quality for lesser quality. All the other teams wanted our picks which they [dang] sure werent getting. What di you guys just want to see a trade happen for the sake of it? Good job Danny. way to be stingy.

Needed another big even if we needed to throw in a 2nd with the JO contract. Kurt Thomas is a guy who I've been harping on about...Camby would have worked too.

We needed a couple bigs and some scoring option off the bench. There is no reason to be flexible this summer. What for? Who are we going to trade? Sign? And no we wouldn't get scrap for the bench guys, we could have had JJ Hickson, Donte Green, hell Portland was offering Matthews and Felton just to get rid of them. We couldn't attempt anything?

With cap space you can trade for a player without giving anything up. It isn't just about signing free agents.

Nobody's giving you anything for JO and a mid to late 2nd pick.

Posters have been crying about tanking for months...now the Celtics are closer to tanking than winning and people still find something to complain about. It's really insane

Lol so some team in the NBA is going to just "trade" away some of their best talent just to do it? Really? I don't think so. We will have the same looking team next year as we do now. The only way we get in on Mayo, Lopez, Hibbert, etc is if we overpay for them. They are RFA.

thank god we preserve our 25 mil in cap space... just enough to bring back Bass, KG, Ray and Jeff Green (best case scenario).

I don't know what I'd do if my CEltics weren't stuck as a 35-45 win team for the foreseeable future.

What would you have done to make us a contender this year?
Nothing.  I would have gotten a draft pick for Ray and a draft pick for Pierce.  I'd rather start our decade long rebuild with assets in hand than start "later" with nothing.

But if I wanted to at least be competitive in the first round, I'd have traded a 2nd rounder for Kaman.

Really? Trade Ray and Pierce FOR DRAFT PICKS? Not even players to rebuild around? THAT'S your idea of rebuilding with assets?

I don't even know if you were serious or not, but how is that not a grand example of trading just to trade?
I'm serious.   You don't "rebuild" with a 35 and 37 year old man.

I'm sorry, by "Rebuild" did you think I mean magically turning this team into a contender next year?   "Rebuild" means starting from scratch... with opportunities to bring in young guys aged 19-22 who you can "build" around.   It's a process.  A lengthy 5 year process.  We'll start it eventually.  You can count on that.  Management is going to cash in on the "big 3" thing for a couple more seasons... sell some more tickets... watch this team win 35-45 games and get owned in the first round... then allow the big 3 to retire and THEN start rebuilding with zero assets on board.

I liked the idea of putting down groundwork now.  But I see there are still a lot of casual fans who don't understand the inner details of what's happening with this squad... convincing themselves this team is actually capable of winning a title this year.  So from management's perspective, they might as well just keep selling out the arena to these casual fans.  Not everyone has as much free time as I do.  I don't blame the casual fans for thinking "big 3 = contender".  I'm an NBA nerd... I see this team for what it really is.  A cash grab.  Aint gonna be no fun watching our undersized team get toyed with by the likes of the Bulls or Heat in the first round this year.

It's also blind homerism to believe that KG Ray and Paul would have given us a 1st rounder each.

And everyone thinks we are a lock to make the playoffs, let me tell you with our track record this year, we'll be lucky to get in. Think about it, any ONE injury to Pierce, KG, Rondo, Bass and we're done. We needed one or two pieces and we couldn't get it done. And there's no guarantee that Kaman gets bought out, no guarantee that Camby wants anything to do with Boston if he's bought out.

Face it the "Big 3" aren't that valuable anymore. No contender is going to trade a core piece for them and no rebuilding team wants 35-year old aging superstars. So most moves end up being lateral at best. Would a contender want a Ray Allen? Sure Chi for example but they're not willing to give up anything valuable when they already gambled and lost with Rip.

Realsitically this is about as good as we could do..

A sad day indeed when Dwight Howard shows loyalty to an atrocious Otis Smith and his team despite the possibility of making millions more in Brooklyn, while "fans" that lose nothing at all refuse to show loyalty in a GM and a core that already got them a championship starting with Paul Pierce and a whole lot of garbage.  I am ecstatic that the Big 4 is here in Boston, and I like their chances against any team in the league over seven games.  Bring it on.

Interesting theory, but pretty unfounded.

Dont insult people's intelligence because you have a theory that the Celtics will bring this same squad back next year.

People who are not angry now would be furious if that happened next year.

No one here would be happy if Celtics management tried to sell anyone on the old Big 3 for a couple more years.

I personally dont think there is a chance in hell that Ainge does that but you are entitled to think that way. Just stop stating it as fact and blending your opinion into what happened (or didnt happen) today.
