yeah, I know Petro is next to useless, but he's a big and we could benefit now and later by taking him off the Nets hands

6. Johan Petro, C, Nets
Petro isn't particularly coveted, and he stretches the definition of "impact player" too far. Nevertheless, I've heard his name come up in myriad scenarios. Why? The Nets need to clear him off their roster to make room for whomever they sign in free agency this summer, and they're willing to offer the Rockets' first-round pick that they have to the team willing to take him into their cap room.

send Wilcox to Jersey for Petro and the Rockets pick

upside, we get a big man and another pick
downside, we lose 3M in cap space next year (don't think we're getting a max guy anyway)

This would be a no-brainer.

Why would the Nets do this now?

Why would the Nets do this now?

They're desperate for cap room for the off-season to appease Deron Williams.

Have you seen the unrestricted free-agents out there besides Deron Williams? The pick and an expiring will be more valuable than the cap space. Maybe we can get something as a 3rd team facilitating a bigger deal; in a straight up trade I don't see it.

No that was to get Howard.  They will still have cap room to help out DWill but remember if they don't get DH they will need to pay Lopez who is a RFA...

It sounds like they're (the Nets) trying to add players not dump salaries...

"Adrian Wojnarowski ‏ @WojYahooNBA
New Jersey is calling everywhere on possible deals, but one player emerging on Nets radar, sources say: Portland's Jamal Crawford."

I think this rumor had to do with the assumption that Dwight would be a free agent at the end of the year.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Which would put a kibosh on that three way deal involving the Lakers and opens the door for Boston to "Leave it to Beasely"!

Sure if that's the deal ... but I expect NJ will want to move two contracts, Petro + probably Farmar, to give up that Rockets pick. At that point, I start to waver on the deal.
