Several sources already believe he's second-guessing that incredible change of heart, and Magic still on phones talking trades with teams.

Howard called Magic CEO while sitting at table and informed him of intentions, source says. Still, Magic waiting for him to sign papers now.

After broader team meeting today, Dwight Howard had lunch with 3 teammates and told them he planned to opt-in for '12-13 season, source says

The order of those tweets go from bottom to top

But if he really does take his option for a final year , won't New Jersey be in danger of losing Deron Williams for nothing?

There has already been talk earlier this year that they were scared of this exact situation.

So if you Danny , do you call up NJ and try to make a Rondo for Williams trade ?

I am not sure I do it if I have to add 1st rd picks , but if it's Rondo and filler for Williams straight up, I would probably pull the trigger

No.

I don't see Deron signing an extension, which means he goes to free agency. Should that happen, I think he'd wind up in Dallas leaving us with no Rondo and no 1sts.

Sidenote: Dwight Howard is really screwing with Orlando. All this back & forth is absurdly immature.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing.

If he would sign an extension, sure. It'd be a no brainer. But he's not. If Deron is not going to be a Net, then he's going to be a Mav.

I heard this driving home and was surprised to not see a multi-page thread about it.

I think it would be great for DH to stay in Orlando.  In fact, I hope they can get him what he needs for the Magic to contend.  The last thing I want is DH to LA.  I am embarrassed to admit that I've been thinking that a little ankle sprain to Bynum might just scare the Magic away -- at least for now. Bynum has looked very good, but I still think Dwight brings more to the table.  Anyway, hope he stays with the team that drafted him.

Oops -- I see that there was another thread.

if he leaaves the nets, he's going to the Mavs..

besides, I dont think theres that much of a difference talent wise between rondo/D.will..but thats a different discussion

I would not trade rondo for deron straight up.  If there was no contract extension signed by deron no way would i do the trade.  Rondo is signed for multi years at an affordable contract, williams is paid top top dollar and has shown some pretty questionable attitude .

Better question is if Howard signs on for the next year with orlando and bogut is already traded what big and how hard do the celtics push for?

If NJ can't keep Deron, neither can Boston.

Dwight won't go to LA...the Shaq parallels will just be too much and he's not ready to play second fiddle to Kobe. He wants to be "The Man." It would be nice if he stayed in ORL. I feel sorry for their fans, he's putting them through a lot.

And don't feel bad...I myself have been thinking its time that its time for Bynum to...take a little vacation. Nothing career ending of course but I think he's had enough fun this season.

I wonder what Dallas is planning on doing with the rest of their roster once they sign Deron.

Keep the pieces in place ... or continue to create cap flexibility to add who? Who would they go after if Dwight Howard is not available?

How do you push for Josh Smith if you don't include Rondo in a trade since he's not a FA?

Yes, if he agrees to an extension.

Howard still wants to play with Williams.  If the Celtics can lock him up this season while keeping contract flexibility going into the 2013/2014 season, they could be the favorites to sign Howard if he decides to leave.

This has to be exactly what Ainge needs to consider. Plan A was to get CP3 and lure Dwight to Boston. A Plan B to get Howard has now opened up.
