Carmelo is now a coach killer.

What a clown

D'Antoni didn't need much help. His finesse style doesn't work in the long run.

Here's the roster he took to the Western Conference Finals -

10   Leandro Barbosa   G   6-3   176   November 28, 1982   2
12   Andre Barrett   G   5-10   172   February 21, 1982   1   Seton Hall University
19   Raja Bell   G   6-5   204   September 19, 1976   5   Florida International University
11   Pat Burke   C-F   6-11   250   December 14, 1973   1   Auburn University
15   Josh Davis   F   6-8   235   August 10, 1980   2   University of Wyoming
3   Boris Diaw   F-C   6-8   215   April 16, 1982   2
23   Sharrod Ford   F   6-9   225   January 9, 1982   R   Clemson University
55   Brian Grant   F   6-9   254   March 5, 1972   11   Xavier University
50   Eddie House   G   6-1   180   May 14, 1978   5   Arizona State University
21   Jim Jackson   G   6-6   220   October 14, 1970   13   Ohio State University
22   James Jones   F   6-8   225   October 4, 1980   2   University of Miami
31   Shawn Marion   F   6-7   220   May 7, 1978   6   University of Nevada, Las Vegas
13   Steve Nash   G   6-3   195   February 7, 1974   9   Santa Clara University
40   Kurt Thomas   F   6-9   230   October 4, 1972   10   Texas Christian University
2   Tim Thomas   F   6-10   230   February 26, 1977   8   Villanova University
1   Dijon Thompson   G-F   6-7   195   February 23, 1983   R   University of California, Los Angeles
15   Nikoloz Tskitishvili   F   7-0   225   April 14, 1983   3

Matrix and Skeeter go a long ways.

It's a player's league without a doubt. But you can't look at that roster and tell me with the right personnel his 'style' couldn't work.

The Knicks hired D'Antoni to run a pizza shop and then asked him to start selling sushi.

oh, and i forgot to mention, the knicks not only have two ball hogs who dont play defense leading the team along with some really bad contracts...

the team only has 1 draft pick in the next three years.

good luck knicks fans!!!

From reading some of the responses on here I can tell some others disagree, but I didnt think this team was going anywhere with D'Antoni anyways.

Dont get me wrong, the Knicks are in complete disarray and it's not Mikes fault, and it may never work with that roster.  In my opinion though, if that team is ever going to turn it around and become a contender this is a step that I think was gonna have to happen.

I dont think I'm alone either, when the Knicks started bringing in all these stars  and trying to build a contender, a good percentage of people's response was, 'Now all they gotta do is get rid of D'Antoni.

His system is too gimmicky, like 'Nellie-Ball', it looks good, puts up great numbers, but in the end it never works, and if it does, it wont be enough against a team with a legit defensive system in place.

....which is why all we've done is pee on them for the past 4 years

I think it's too soon for Phil Jackson.

Pretty doubtful he'd return to the NBA but the lure of NY has gotta be strong for him. Still, I think Phil needs more time off before he is ready mentally to even consider taking another Head Coaching job in the NBA.

Can't wait to see what this does to Raymond Felton's numbers.  He's been averaging 17 points, 9 assists and 1.8 assists for the Knicks.  That 14 game stretch where he lead them to 13 wins (including 8 in a row) really lit the city on fire.  In that stretch he was averaging 20+ points, 10+ assists, 4+ rebounds, 2.5 steals and 46% shooting...  Really, really interested to see if people will start dumping their Felton jerseys if his numbers go back to "reality" in a different system.

Wow. Has anyone passed this along? Up on NBA.com.

Quote
TNT’s David Aldridge weighs in with even more details on a rift between D’Antoni and Anthony that might have led to the “mutual parting of the ways”:

A source with knowledge of the discussions says D’Antoni and Knicks chairman James Dolan mutually agreed to terminate D’Antoni’s job with New York after the two met this morning.

D’Antoni, the source said, had been advocating that the Knicks attempt to trade Anthony to the New Jersey Nets for guard Deron Williams, a deal D’Antoni believed would be beneficial for both franchises. But Dolan categorically declined that request, and the “conflicting visions” between the owner and head coach about Anthony meant there was no way forward.

D’Antoni had hoped the Knicks’ inspired and winning play with Lin as the centerpiece — while Anthony and Stoudemire were injured — would convince Dolan the Knicks could win without Anthony. Bringing Williams from the Nets would also have eases the burden on Lin, D’Antoni believed, allowing Lin to settle into a three-guard rotation.

D’Antoni asked for the meeting with Dolan after his relationship with Anthony had deteriorated sharply in recent days. He will be paid the remainder of the $6 million he’s due in this fourth and final year of his $24 million contract.

This is step one towards my fond desire to see Mike D'Antoni end up as the ringmaster of the Lebron James No-Ring Circus in Miami.

Apparently, D'Antoni wanted Deron for Carmelo....

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/219739/DAntoni_Sought_Trade_Of_Carmelo_For_Deron_Williams

I guess that's why he got 'let go'. That would such a spite for D'Antoni - to get DWill to play with Chandler, and Amare....could have been scary.
