He probably asked for Wallace and Batum, or something like that.  I am guessing Danny was not looking to give Pierce away.

I actually think this is a great idea for the C's (i love PP) but I think if you look at it, next year, RR and Wallace, instead of RR and PP, as building blocks looks a bit better. Wallace does 'fit' in with RR's uptempo style and he is a much better slasher than PP now.

Boston Celtics boss Danny Ainge has said Rajon Rondo will not be traded, he is still actively seeking offers for members of the Big Three. The Celtics offered Paul Pierce to Portland -- I'm not sure what they asked for in return -- but the Blazers were not interested because of the two years and $32 million remaining on Pierce's contract.

Wonder what he asked for...

The Clippers also have their eye on Ray Allen and believe they'll have a great chance to sign him as a free agent this summer. The Lakers called Portland recently to inquire about a possible trade for Crawford.

I don't think the Clippers have a "great" chance to sign Ray as a free agent.  If the Celtics want to keep him, he will stay.  I doubt he wants to move to LA, when his son is ill and he gets the best care on the east coast.
I agree as long as we give him a reasonable and fair deal I think he'll stay as well and not walk. He even said himself a few days ago he feels this team can compete now and even next year. *hint perhaps*

I would trade Pierce. Hey, its a business and he be 35. Dont like to see him leave either but we not going to get better next season unless the Celtics get some help.

I'm thinking it was probably Pierce & JO's expiring for Wallace & Camby's expiring.

Is it is Pierce for Wallace, I hate it.  He is almost 30.  He is not the piece I would want.

Now if it is from Batum and a pick, I get it.  Not sure how much I would like it.

Get better with who bunch of mediocre player in their best day Pierce would school them.

Batum is role player at best. I can't pinpoint a single offensive skill Batum has. Mediocrity personified.

Wallace losing his athleticism. It's downhill from here on out.

While Batum is not a go to guy like Pierce, his offensive game is still strong.  He is shooting 40% from the three.  He averages 17 points a game as a starter.  And he is a good defender.

He is a top level role player at worst.  A building block, but not one of the key stones.

I wouldn't mind. Wallace is 5 years younger than Pierce and gives us 5M in cap room next season. And that's only if he takes the player option for next season.

And he's a super young and athletic guy who can run and defend well with a lot to learn. I'd probably be interested in Batum and a first for Pierce, but I'd prefer Matthews. A Rondo-Matthews-Batum 1-2-3 is very young, athletic, fast, great on defense and has the necessary shooting to make it work. Obviously, it sounds like Portland isn't interested in his contract, though, so I don't know if we'll pull this one off.

Rondo + Wallace equals NBA no mans land.  Good enough not to get decent draft picks, not good enough to be a contender.

I rather have Piece the rest of the season and next season then Wallace.  He may be older, but he is better.  Wallace has no more upside to grow into.

Thank you wdleehi for saying what i was on the verge of typing, haha.

The only thing i'll disagree on is that i think Batum WILL be a "key stone" as you put it (much better than Keystone, which is disgusting) and not just a "block."

He's still 23 and is already a lights out shooter and an above average defender at multiple positions.

Celtics need all-stars players and superstars if they want to contend. Putting a team consisting of role players is recipe for disaster.

edit: 9, 11, 9, and 9 are Batum points last 4 games.

The Celtics are not getting All-Star players and superstar players for their assets right now.

They can get attractive pieces that help facilitate moves to get those types of players in the future.   A Pierce for Batum and a draft pick is such a deal.  And it does not reduce the cap space this offseason.

It gives the Celtics some more flexibility rebuilding.

Still not sure if I would like this move.  I just understand the move.
