Reportedly, the Nets and Bobcats are working on a trade that would dump the salaries of Jordan Farmar and Johan Petro along with a protected first round pick from Houston in exchange for the expiring contract of Boris Diaw.

I can see the Celtics getting in on that to snag Petro, an athletic 7-footer who runs the floor well but is not a particularly good center and certainly non-starter caliber.

The Celtics send out Dooling, Marquis Daniels, and a second round pick.  In return, they get Petro (from New Jersey) and, to fulfill salary cap roles since Dooling for Petro straight up doesn't work, little-used and undrafted 6'5" rookie combo guard Cory Higgins, the University of Colorado's all-time leading scorer.

The main impediment is that Petro is owed $3.5m for next season, but that contract is movable in the off-season, especially if some time on the floor with Rondo makes Petro look good.

Is getting rid of Dooling and acquiring some center depth without having to give up a first round pick or a key rotation player a good enough price to give up some cap flexibility for next season?

I would rather explore the Nets' willingness to give up the Houston 1st rounder.

I'd trade Dooling for a new toilet just to flush him down.

Nope, I'll pass. Rather give the minutes to JJJ if it comes to that (hopefully not). And the contract is fairly small, but NJ is willing to pay to dump it.

How is that desperate? Trading the worst player on the team for a 26 year old 7 Footer... that falls under the no brainer area for me.

Depends on how you feel about taking on that extra money for next season.  Is Dooling so bad and the Celtics need for a big so desperate that you would happily replace him with Mikki Moore from the D-League?

the rumoured deal between njn and charlotte would supposedly involve pargo, farmar and hou 2012 non-lotto 1st. would you trade  dooling, wilcox, daniels or jo for such package? hurts our next year's cap flexibility, but brings us 2 serviceable pieces and a future asset..

Petro isn't a large enough upgrade over a D-League center to justify that expense both in terms of finances (cash money) and wasted cap flexibility.

I would trade Dooling for a list of teams we could send him to. Figure that one out.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

How about getting into this deal by replacing the Hornets and giving up JO and Dooling for Farmar and Petro, freeing up $7m in cap space for the Nets.  We could throw in more of our scrubvets if we want to take on Shawne Williams $2,5m next year.

Farmar and Petro add $7.5m to the payroll next year, assuming that Farmar doesn't opt out of his $4m.  Shawne Williams has the same opportunity to walk from $3.1m  If the Cs want to buy their bench now, and grab a first round pick, they could make this move with JO, Wilcox and Dooling, and have those three guys coming off the bench next year.  Then the Cs can then re-up KG and Ray for reasonable money and keep the window slightly open.
