Hornets willing to give up lotto pick to dump Okafor

Would anyone else take Okafor without the pick?

Provided that Danny is convinced we aren't getting Howard, I would. His deal is only 2 more years and it's quite reasonable for a guy who is a double double machine and a good shot blocker.

By next trade deadline (or the summer of 2013 at the latest) his deal would actually become an asset. If we aren't going to get a big FA this summer, Danny likely brings Ray and KG back for one more year. At the very least Emeka keeps them competitive while Danny tries to retool. At best, he gives them one last shot at #18 this year. If he gets healthy, he is the best and most well rounded center of the Big Three Era.

While I don't think the Hornets would do this trade, we have to remember that the Hornets are still league owned and would be looking to drop as much salary as possible in order to make them more attractive to a potential buyer.

They know they aren't going to be contending anytime soon, and from what I've heard/read most people believe that Eric Gordon will sign with the Pacers once he gets a chance.

Actually they believe the Hornet might have found an owner.  Read Hoopsworld.  The group has Mike Dunleavy in it and he wants to keep both Kaman and Gordon who played for him in LA.

Also, in reagrds to Eric Gordon most people don't think he'll sign with the Pacers for sure. He may want to but since he's a restricted FA New Orleans has the right to match any deal and based on comments I've read that's exactly what they'll do...

Why wouldn't the hornets just amnesty okafur? They keep their pick that way. I doubt they give up a lottery pick anyway. They'd be better off keeping okafur at centre for 2 years, drafting the pick and letting him develop. 
This rumor doesn't make much sense to me.

the thing is, and i believe it was already explained somewhere in this thread, that NOLA is a league owned team. so they are not eager to pay him such money for letting him go. however, getting rid of his $30m remaining contract might seriously help  the league in finding a buyer for the franchise. at least that's how i see it

In addition, when a player is amnestied, the team still has to pay him; it just doesn't count against the cap. So by trading Okafor for expiring deals, the Hornets pay 30 million dollars less than they would of they amnestied him.

In an ideal world, JO + Wilcox + Dooling.  To me, that package is preferable to giving up Ray.

In his best season so far, Perk put up 10.1 pts and 7.6 rebs a game.  Those are below Okafor's career averages and even this season playing for a terrible NO team, Okafor is averaging 9.9 pts and 7.9 rebs.  He's not the physical force Perk is but Okafor is clearly the better player and his durability gives him the edge over Shaq.

Of course, with Okafor's contract there's no way you trade for him without getting that 1st round pick.

A little surprised Cleveland would do this with Andy Varejao and Tristan Thompson already there. I'd think that with a rebuilding effort that's clearly heading in a positive direction with Irving, they'd try to avoid contracts like this.

Im guessing since it worked out so well for them last season that they feel this is a worth while strategy to attain young  elite talent.

I think it would have to be those 3 plus Daniels, Pavlovic, Bradley or Johnson to make the salaries match. I think NO would want Bradley and/or Johnson...young talent...not Daniels or Pavlovic...expiring contracts...and I don't think Danny will give them up.
