Emeka Okafor is signed through the 2013-14 season, owed nearly $28 million in salary after this season. The Okafor contract is, arguably, the worst long-term deal in the NBA. The Hornets looking to package a first-rounder with the Okafor contract makes total sense. Finding a potential buyer, well that's another issue.

Cavs will stay in touch w/Hornets (regarding Eric Gordon) however. Hornets said to still be entertaining offers for either of 2 first rounders to dump Okafor deal

If they decide to remove the protection on it, I think I would make this deal (if it could land us Davis, Barnes, etc).

With Eric Gordon's injury this is one deal I would make involving Ray.  Take on a legit center but get back a lottery pick.  Couldnt we still amnesty him too?
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Nope, we couldn't amnesty him.  New Orleans can only amnesty Okafor.  This is the kind of deal I can see Danny making.

Im not sure I would be opposed to a deal like that. Okafor is at least a legit center in the middle, i would use the first rounder as trade bait.

I agree--so much for discipline, this could be a temptation.

I think this is a no brainer

That's a no brainer. You have to do that deal IMO. This is what cap space is for-- getting an asset like a lottery pick in this draft to take on Okafor's contract? Frankly, its a slam dunk. Two more years for unprotected lottery pick? Easy, easy trade... too good to be true...

Wow, tough to say no, great rebounder, good shot blocker & good defender.  Guy like Rondo can make him look like an all star because he can get up and down the court.

Hmmm... Get on the ole ringer Danny...

How would this play out though? I would hate for one of the big 3 to be moved to new orleans...that's just a kick in the guts...

Who do we give up?

In an ideal world, JO + Wilcox + Dooling.  To me, that package is preferable to giving up Ray.

Yep. Or sub Marquis or Pavlovic for Dooling (and keep the PG depth).

OK - JO, Wilcox, Pavlicic, Keyon Dooling for Okafor and their lottery pick. Sounds like a no brainer to me. Lets Git-R-done, Danny!!!
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Wait wait wait...

If N.O. could just amnesty Okafor, why would they give up a lottery pick just for expiring contracts? Couldn't they just get out from the entire contract through the amnesty and keep their lottery pick? Why would they want Ray?

This rumor doesn't pass the smell test.  While I am sure Okafor is available, I do not believe for a second the Hornets are willing to give him away along with a lottery pick, just for the cap relief.

My guess is they are trying to trade for a quality player, and they are trying to use Okafor rather than Kaman as the trade ballast, and are floating the pick to tempt someone.
