"@SamAmicoFSO: Cavs will stay in touch w/Hornets however. Hornets said to still be entertaining offers for either of 2 first rounders to dump Okafor deal"

Would you deal Jo, Dooling and Wilcox for Okafor and either Minnesota or No's first? This would be similar to the deal that Cleveland made to acquire Irving last year. Instead of $25 mm this would leave us with $12 mm of cap space (8 if Bass picks up his option. Three firsts in a very good draft would be better for rebuilding than the cap space imo. Also Okafor would be huge for us bringing back a perk like presence.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Just say no!

That contract is a killer for years to come

It's killer for two more years, but next year is irrelevant (we aren't signing anyone this summer), and might be useful for a trade the year after.

I might make a deal like that, but I'd probably want a couple of picks - kind of like when the Sonics (think they were still in Seattle) took Kurt Thomas off Phoenix' hands and received two first rounders for their efforts.

Get some picks, use next year to rebuild/acquire + develop trade assets, then use Okafor's expiring deal in '13-'14 to make the next KG/Ray-type deal.  We're more likely to get our next star either via draft or via trade (not through a direct free agency signing), so I'd be interested in pursuing deals that head us in that direction.

Plus, he's help us - a lot - in the meantime.  If you'd like to stay reasonably relevant, having another team's high draft picks while still being able to play decent ball, sounds good to me.

It is a move you make in the summer after the top FA are gone.

Depends on the quality of the picks.

Top five picks, I'd definitely take them over cap space.
Top ten picks, yeah, probably take them over cap space too.
Top 15 picks, depends on how much cap space I am losing. Could go either way.
Top 20 picks and lower, I take cap space.

We'd get a lottery pick in a stacked draft, I think that is worth a killer contract. Drummond, Mkg, or Thomas Robinson would look great in green.

If New Orleans were willing to sacrifice their own pick in this summer's draft, yeah, I make this trade.

I don't do it for Minnesota's pick though. Not at this point. I'd revisit it in the off-season around draft time or after free agency. But I wouldn't make it right now.

Emeka Okafor makes Boston a legitimate threat in the East.

Doc didn't sign an extension to coach a core of Rondo,PP,Okafor picks and role players for the next 3 years.

Plus all the picks are likely to be 15,20 and 25 . Maybe if we are getting a top 10 pick I would , but there is no way NO is giving up their own top 5 pick, it would be Minnys(15ish)

They have bigger plans than this IMO.

IDK, Minny's pick is bound to improve with Rubio out for the remainder of the season.  I could see it being as high as #10.

Also, Okafor would probably be a good fit for us (for this year), and while he does have a high salary, it's only for 2 more years (possibly only 1 more season, he has an ETO in 2013/14).

Getting a solid C to help make one last run this year plus a late lottery pick in the upcoming draft is a decent trade off for giving up cap space for the next 2 years.

Yeah, I think he would really improve our rebounding.  Good defensive player too.  Allows KG to go back to his more natural PF position and allows Bass to go back to the bench.

I kind of like draft picks because they are salary controlled for up to five years and aren't to hard to move in trades

I doubt it's on the table then.

Draft picks, because until we have a real young superstar on this team there's no point in trying to attract big name free agents.

Cap space... Unless you have a top 6 or 7 pick or find an absolute steal, I personally dont put much stock into the draft.
