What is the point of wasting a 2nd rounder which we could get lucky with on the oldest player in the league in a year in which you are NOT going to win a championship?

What's tgr point of potentially drafting a Lester Hudson type in the second rd? I'd rather spend the pick on Thomas, and give us a better chance of going out swinging.
The chances are probably good... But that's totally hypothetical. You don't waste a second rounder on a guy who offers LITTLE value this season and NO value going forward.
We could use Thomas. We already have Johnson, Bradley, Stiemsma, Moore and 2 first rounders next year. We don't need a random second rounder and if we want one can't danny just buy one most likely?
lol... Sure Kurt would add a big body to the squad... but is he REALLY going to be much more effective than Jermaine ONeal? Chris Wilcox? Greg Stiemsma even? Probably not.
Kurt Thomas is not bringing banner #18 to Boston... Sorry.
Im not saying he's a savior, but it is a gigantic whole in our lineup especially with JO. We probably aren't going to win a championship but you act like we should just forfeit the season. If bass was injured I would want to try and find somebody too I wouldn't just say "we aren't winning anyway let's just stick our thumbs up our butts"
But yeah if you are looking for Lester hudson or semih erden or Gabe pruit than you are on to something.
I'm really happy you aren't our GM because actually that's exactly what I want to see happen. Trade away whatever we can of the Big 3 for picks and or young players with upside.
Forget about this season and focus on making our 1st rounder as close to the top 10 as possible.
So yeah. The correctsalary mentality is "we aren't winning this year, so lets set ourselves up the best way possible for the future..."
Trading for Kurt Thomas doesn't do that bro.
Bro Im glad you aren't the gm. How long you been
following the Celtics for? I think you are on an island right now if you think any gm would forfeit the season or blow up the team when they are 2 games behind the 4th seed. Pretty sure danny is going to do something closer to what im suggesting than what you are Haha.
I'll be 22 in July... So, pretty much for as long as Paul Pierce has been in green.
You can keep thinking that these 'going out swinging' trades are what this team needs and I'll be sitting here telling you 'I told you so' when they lose in the first or second round of the playoffs and have nothing to show for the expiring contracts they could and should have traded during the season to acquire picks and young players with upside.
People on this forum need to stop being so short sighted and look toward the future... Banner 18 is NOT coming this year.
See I enjoyed those playoffs where we battled with the Sixers, nets pacers with pierce and toine. What has tanking ever got us? Have you seen the teams that are in the draft every year? They are in the draft every year and they never get better. The bucks, raptors, and wizards had frigged number 1 picks and look where they are.
Id rather take my chances with this team in the playoffs this year. Cause after this year, barring a big move who knows when we will even be back in the playoffs.
Do we really need to tank every year unless we are contenders? People would rather see us in the lottery every year than in the playoffs?
You aren't looking at the big picture AT ALL... Notice any differences between the teams you listed and the team we are fans of? Those are all small market teams where nobody wants to go... Very few of those teams have been in the situation that we are going to be in... We have a very young stud PG who can distribute the ball, valuable trade chips and immense cap space coming in the offseason... If Danny can make the right moves we have the chance to be right back in contention if not next season then definitely after the 2013 offseason which will boast a much more talented free agent pool.
I never ever said that I wanted us in the lottery every season... But I surely do this year seeing how this is one of the deepest drafts in recent memory, and could possibly net us a young stud to pair with Rondo and whatever max free agent we could possibly sign.
Sign me up for that and not a 1st round exit and only Rondo and Doc to attract players here.
I'm looking toward the future... And I am pretty sure Danny is too.
Why else do you think Doc signed a five year deal to stay in Boston? Big things were promised to happen... Danny isn't just going to sit on his hands.
Sentimentality kills franchises.
I I guess we will find out in a week. Id be shocked if he blows it up. Also sorry we are not a free agent destination at all. The last major free agent to come here was who a washed up dominique Wilkins?
Also I don't know how in the world you think there is any possibility of us being contenders in the next couple years. Don't even know where u come up with that.
In any case this team is getting blown up at the end of the season anyway id like to throw a second rounder for Thomas and at least help out the current team a little bit. I really don't see how that handicaps us for the future
Really? With Doc signing a long term deal to stay in Boston, our current ownership and Danny Ainge you don't think they are going to do WHATEVER they can to keep this team in contention for the next 5-7 years? If that's really what you think than you are sadly mistaken.
This team will never go back to being a bottom feeder as long as Doc, Danny and Wyc are together. You can be assured of that. You think they are just going to let the sell outs come to an end? You think they are gonna let the revenue die down? No chance.
With the potential moves they could make before this trade deadline, this offseason and the 2013 offseason, it's not unrealistic at all to think they could be legitimate contenders by then. In fact that's probably the way the situation will play out.
But go ahead. Keep sitting there with your pessimistic goggles, waiting for Kurt Thomas to walk through the door.
I'll stay focused on the big picture.
