Every night it's the same thing.  If Ainge is serious about trying to make one more run this year, then he needs to get a few young bigs to help our rebounding situation.  Kris Humphries, Jason Thompson, and Kenneth Faried come to mind.  I mean, Lavoy Allen has six boards at the half tonight!  Last night it was Dalembert and Scola destroying us on the boards.  We cannot consistently win if we don't clean the glass.  Wilcox and Bass just aren't getting it done, and Garnett can't do it alone.

Well, it's not gonna change until the personnel changes.  In fact, it's probably gonna be quite a while before this is a good rebounding team.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Agreed.  I like Bass' toughness and mid-range game, but he's only averaging 5.9 boards in 30 minutes.  As for Wilcox, he just doesn't seem like a winning player.  His athleticism is overrated at this point too, imo.  Humphries and Thompson could probably be had with the Clippers pick.  And again, the aforementioned scenario is only if Danny wants to make one more run.

The sad part is that there is no reason this team couldn't be a good rebounding team. Rebounding is as much about laying a body on guys as it is athleticism or height.

I simply don't buy that these guys can't rebound. Whether they do what is "necessary" to actually get the ball is an entirly different question.

Please do not tell me a 7 foot Kevin Garnett can't box out anyone on a basketball court

A 6'7" Pierce couldn't check a 6'9" guy all night if had to..

A 6'8" Bass coudln't check a 6'10" guy all night if he had to..

It's complete BS that this team can't rebound. They "won't" rebound.

Find someone, lay a body on him and make him crawl over your back to get the ball.

These guys turn around and look at the rim every time a shot goes up and guys waltz by them all night.

It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen that just goes on and on and on, game after game.

but remember, when we had a young team several years ago and missed out on those rebounds, it was because they were young and didn't know what it took to win.  thankfully we now have veterans who know what it takes to win like boxing out.
oh wait, nevermind.   ::)

Exactly. It's more about attitude and positioning than it is about athleticism. If it were, then guys like Oakley, Unseld, Cage, etc. wouldn't have been the rebounders they were.

It's a bad reboudning team period,

danny used the MLE on wallace and jermaine, average rebounders on the downside,

paul and kg, once above average rebounders now not so much cos they are old,

Also Bass has a poor rebounding %

doc uses a rotating defensive which puts ray under the defensive basket alot of the time trying to get the defensive rebound which he is horrible at.

If doc wants to play this style of d you can't play it with both paul and ray on the perimeter, before when paul was younger he could cover for ray on the boards but now not so much. We need a 2 or 3 that can play d and board and also a center/forward that can do the same.

we should start pietrus and have ray going off the bench, u can't play ray and paul at the 2 and the 3 at the same time for extended minutes, also at the end of games i like to see ray at the point if u play him and pietrus at the 2, unless rondo is hot.

I am surprised at our record considering that our rebounding skills are atrocious.  I think we need a lot of help here, possibly a full time rebounding coach. We have to live with this horrible deficiency.

In general I agree with the OP that I'm sick of the Celtics getting out-rebounded most games.  And I'm sick of the Celtics committing too many turnovers by their starters.

But part of the rebounding number discrepancy is a result of the Celtics mantra of getting back on defense to prevent easy fast break points.  This results in a lack of offensive rebounding, which we have to acknowledge is a result of the team defensive concept.

However, when this team doesn't get enough defensive rebounds it really frustrates me.  Defensive rebounds are a result of technique in boxing out and desire to get the rebound w/o worrying about running down the court for a fast break.

Side note - KG at center seems to work for him because of his rebounding technique.  KG, in my opinion, has never been great at boxing out.  However, he is very good at timing a jump for a rebound (plus his long arms, etc).  For this reason, when he is at Center and near the hoop he can take advantage of his timing and it minimizes his inability to box out.
