Woj was on WEEI and gave his thoughts on the Rondo rumors, particularly the reports linking him to Pau Gasol.

Quote
Added Wojnarowski: “They’re not going to trade [Rondo] unless they get a superstar back. So, that probably tells you they’re not going to trade him, because that kind of player is not available to them right now.”

One popular rumor had the C’s considering sending Rondo to the Lakers for Pau Gasol.

Said Wojnarowski: “I think that LA certainly wants a point guard, there’s no question. I know Kobe [Bryant] loves Rondo, and he’d love to play with him. I’ve also been told, for all the talk about that Gasol [rumor] … I’ve been told the two teams never ever discussed — LA had never called Boston and they’ve never discussed it. I don’t think it’s anything that’s really based in any reality.”

Exactly. This random comment by Mitch (which I think was really referring to the botched CP3 deal) is the main source of this rumor. Blogs ran with it and the next thing you, fans are acting like Danny was setting up a physical for Pau in Boston.

  • Rondo = Good
Not really surprising.  Like last year, I think that if any big trade goes down it'll be something we haven't even heard anything about.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I never really thought the Gasol rumor was true, but there sure was a lot of smoke.

I love that Kobe loves Rondo, that says a lot.

Woj is always the best source of Celtics trade info: I think he gets his stuff directly from Danny and pretty clearly runs C's rumors by Danny before going with them too.

I think Danny is careful not to burn him either.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Woj just basically without naming names...named names and said those writers were hacks.

Good for him. When he's not writing about Lebron, he's one of the best out there

There was a ton of talk of it on the Lakers blog. I got the impression the LA bloggers were for it.  The rumor was spread far and wide , and I think I heard reference to it on a sports TV channel as well.

The rumor made so much sense that if the teams weren't talking about a Rondo for Gasol deal before, you'd think they would start talking about it upon hearing the rumor.

Get back to me on the 16th on this one.

Until then, Woj is just playing along with the posturing.

why would a respected NBA writer like Woj play along with the posturing?? of any of the nba writers he is usually the most reliable...if there was a trade being discussed, he would mention it like he did for the cp3 stuff

but go ahead, cover your ears and listen to hacks like broussard while macmullen,Woj,ainge, doc say rondo isnt going anywhere...we'll see on the 16th

I am continually amazed by people who consider the words of the other day the definitive word on Rondo's future when the facts are crystal clear. It's nothing but wishful thinking.

Do I think Rondo's going anywhere? No. He doesn't have great value in the league. People aren't going to move quality for an attitude problem, so it became necessary for the Celts front office to take the discussion in another direction.

Do I think that Ainge and Doc's statements close the book on the possibility of a Rondo trade? Absolutely not. If they can land a Gasol or a Deron, he's history.

The desperation that some of you have resorted to at the notion of the possible trade of your binky is humorous.

I don't think that very many people have been claiming that Rondo's definitely staying, and if there are a few I don't see why those statements would be any more humorous than your claiming to know what Rondo's value around the league is, or that somehow his attitude problem makes him less desirable than the multitude of highly sought after players with attitude problems we've seen, most recently Melo or possibly Deron.
