it was my understanding that Ownership felt a comittment to see Paul Pierce retire as a Celtic, which i think is the absolute right thing to do.

and ............. i hated Pierce when he was younger and thought that he embarassed this great franchise several times. but watching him stick out the horrible '07 season and then seeing him grow up a lot when KG got here, i now see him as a true Celtic, warts and all.

Danny - we don't trade true Celtics. you can act like you're smarter than Red all you want, but you proved last season that you had very little understanding of your own team when you gave Perk away. just making trades to prove a point is idiotic.

Red built three seperate championship groups and he understood some things about Celtic Pride and the importance of unity and how much those things mattered over the long run. you actually think you know more about managing a team than Red Auerbach ?

Many of Danny's moves remind me more of something John Y. Brown would have pulled. Take a cue from Red and keep the unity of this very proud franchise intact, even if it means a few more losses right now - we will have plenty of ability to rebuild after this season. don't insult the Big Three the way you did Kendrick Perkins.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Do you think Pierce wants to retire a Celtics if we go in full rebuild mode, and he rots his final few years away on 10 win teams...? Yeah, that sounds wonderful for Paul Pierce.

Remember, this is a two way street. Pierce will always, always be a Celtic... But if we decide to go full rebuild, there is little chance he'd want to be here.

smoothie is spot on.  Any Celtic fan that wants Pierce traded really doesn't understand the concept of Celtic Pride.  You have to take into consideration more than the fact that Pierce is just a basketball player.  He got stabbed in Boston; Boston took care of him.  His team sucked in Boston, and despite voicing his thoughts on the possibilities of being open to a trade, we stuck with him.  As fans, it is our job to stick with him through thick and thin; the man who turned the face of this franchise upside down and gave Celtic fans a decade of excitement that never ceased to dissatisfy.

Pierce is a Celtic to the end.

celtics pride is about winning not only games but championships. Nobody would have any pride in the celtics if they were a bunch of losers. Paul's capicity to help you win ball games is diminishing. this is to be expected he is a wing scorer in his mid thirties. Apart from ageing there is nothing wrong with paul.

I agree. At his age the consistency of great play starts to diminish. Hopefully he cam go on a dirk like tear come may.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If we move Paul, he goes to a contender 99% of the time.
He avoids the first few years of a miserable rebuild and gets a shot at 1 or 2 more rings.

We get cap relief and some fresh young blood to kick in a new era.

Win win for both sides.

Pierce will always be a Celtic, no matter what team he plays for in the last year or two. His number is hanging in the rafters regardless.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I still can't seem to shake the thought that Pierce and Rondo are not getting along at all.
I'm not sure if it is a power struggle between the two or something, but, I don't know, I mean, in the all star game, I found it weird that they didn't really hang around with each other much, considering they were the only two Celtic representatives there.
I could be just purely over-thinking this, but, I don't know.

Well, whatever the issue is, we're back to 500, thank God.

Paul (and Rondo) had better channel their inner "Ubuntu" from here on out.

I'm guessing..just pure speculation on my part as a fan, that if Boston can string some wins here together, then perhaps Danny will just do minor cuts and nips here and there as far as personnel moves.

If not, and Paul and Rondo continue to be up and down like the last few weeks, and we lose more, then I see Danny putting the team to sleep and operating wholesale on it.
