Does anyone know why Chandler can't be traded (for anybody) on the Trade Machine?  Some kind of BYC thing?  If he's truly exempt it means any trade can't involve him.

Isn't it the standard thing: March 1 or 2 months after the date he signed his current contract?

Gotcha.  So he can be traded as of Thursday.  Still don't think they package him in to take a bad contract if they've already put Melo on the table.

I think they need to take back someone like Turkoglu, not because its a bad contract, but because they would need a wing who can score down the stretch.

They can do better than Turk for Chandler - they could suck it up this year and try to make moves in the offseason, or move him in a separate/3-way deal for a better wing.  Wonder if Rudy Gay is still gettable.

I'm still 95% sure this is hot air til I see a solid source, though.  But it's fun to bat around.

How do you fit Dwight, Chandler and Amar'e into one team? Come on, D'Antoni's had problems with defense, doesn't mean he's a nutcase to do something like this.

if ny do trade for howard, and tyson becomes available i would rather danny trade for him than gasol, if danny is determined to trade rondo away for a big, I would danny offer ray or pierce first up but.

How hilarious would this be and serve Carmelo? w/ all the drama he caused in Denver to the face of NY to sent packing to Orlando

hard to believe Melo is on the table but he'd be a big chip to get Howard.

Melo + Lin and extra pieces for salary/talent
for DH, Jameer and Hedo's contract.

Not sure who'd look appealing to Orlando as a big piece to come in with Melo/Lin but I don't think 2 1st rounder would cut it.

I don't think you give up anything else if you are putting Melo on the table. Straight swap.
I think you gotta at least put a first and one of the young pgs on the table.  And possibly a cheap young prospect or specialist like Novak or Josh Harrelson

Who out there is offering a better trade package than Carmelo Anthony straight up for Dwight Howard?

That looks like the winning bid to me.

I haven't looked ahead to see other reactions to your comment, but I completely agree with you.   This would be the first superstar for superstar offer Orlando has gotten.

Of course Orlando will struggle this year, but superstars are the most elusive and valuable commodity in the NBA and neither Bynum nor Lopez nor anyone else I've heard mentioned in trade with Orlando is a bonafide superstar.  Melo is 27 and is a top ten player on anyone's list.  A 2 or 3-year plan to build around him and Orlando will have a good shot at being a contender again.  No other package does that.

FYI, if you hover your mouse over the anti symbol, you see text that tells you why that person can't be traded and when the restriction expires.

It seems to me that Melo's most valuable role to a team is trade chip.

While Melo is not in Howard's league when it comes to value, Orlando does not have New York's leverage since Howard doesn't have much left in his deal. At least Orlando is getting an all star level player who is also popular among fans.

Melo + piece or two for Howard
Chandler for Monta. Bam. (I honestly have no idea if that works, GSW don't have the greatest big men)

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

I wonder if Portland would part with Batum & Matthews for Chandler & a pick.

New York:

Lin
Matthews
Batum
Amare
Dwight

Orlando:

Nelson
Reddick
Melo
Anderson
?

Portland:

Felton
Crawford
Wallace
LMA
Ty Chandler

Its kinda a dumb trade unless there are other peices or moves on both parties parts.

Orlando would have Melo and Hedo at the 3, so now you have a high contract player coming off the bench. And have to Start Big Baby at the C spot.

And NY would have to Centers and no one at the 3. Do they have Amare at the 3 and Chandler at the 4?

I think Hedo and Chandler will have to be in it as well, or a third party to move peices around. Both teams get worse this year with that trade straight up.

I don't think Melo by himself is worth DH.  Melo can score.  DH can score (somewhat), defend and rebound.  If Orlando just took Melo for DH, they'd be fools.  They'd need to get some more talent and cut salary.
