hard to believe Melo is on the table but he'd be a big chip to get Howard.

Melo + Lin and extra pieces for salary/talent
for DH, Jameer and Hedo's contract.

Not sure who'd look appealing to Orlando as a big piece to come in with Melo/Lin but I don't think 2 1st rounder would cut it.

I don't think you give up anything else if you are putting Melo on the table. Straight swap.

Unless Chandler is included in the deal, it's a totally losing deal for Orlando.  Their team would be utterly horrible in the short term.  Who starts at center -- Glen Davis?
If I am New York, I am really uncomfortable at giving up both Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler for Dwight Howard.

Taking back a bad contract too in Hedo Turkoglu. Massively uncomfortable.

Well, what we've heard all season long is that Orlando wants to win now.  If they trade Howard, they'll only do so if they can remain competitive in the short term.  That doesn't happen unless Chandler is included.

No way they give up Lin. He's a cash cow. He's brought new life into the city for the first time since 1994. They would never hear the end of it of they traded him after a few weeks and he turned into a real player (which I doubt). Especially with so my $$ tied up in another center who I don't think is that easy to move.

I could see 'Melo, Chandler, Shumpert, and cash or picks for Dwight, Turk, and Reddick.

LOL @ Orlando if they think that Melo is going to be a good sport down there in Disneyworld.

Even if he's trying his hardest, their team for the foreseeable future is --

Nelson / Duhon
Richardson / Redick
Melo
Anderson / Davis
Chandler

Not great.

Melo does not give two hoots about winning. He's interested in partying back home in NYC.  He demanded a trade from a perennial playoff team, and a season removed from a WCF appearance.  Doesn't matter if Orlando becomes a dynasty, he's going in the tank once he is there.  They'd be better off spinning Melo to us for Rondo, which is something I'd think about because I know it'd interest Danny.

Not for this thread: Speaking of which, I wonder if LA and Orlando make the Pau/Bynum-Howard deal and then spin Pau to us for Rajon.

If this is legit it's not a deal for this year for either team - Orlando would suck at C and the Knicks at the wing.

It's a deal for the long-term where the Knicks look to flip Amar'e or Chandler for a wing in the offseason, and the Magic have Melo for several years and try to build around him, instead of getting Bynum, Brook Lopez, or nothing for Howard.

Since it's Around the Horn I'm guessing it's just hot air, though.
I think you trade both Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler if you land Dwight Howard.

Try to get some serious help on the perimeter.

NYC thinks they are the center of the Universe.   I would trade Amare for Howard not Melo if I was them.

I don't think I make that trade if the asking price is Melo + Tyson. Too high a price.

Does anyone know why Chandler can't be traded (for anybody) on the Trade Machine?  Some kind of BYC thing?  If he's truly exempt it means any trade can't involve him.

From what I've read, Amare is considered untradeable because he appears to be declining so rapidly and his contract is uninsured (a big issue considering his past knee problems).

Amare has no trade value.  For all the people that are crying about Gasol's 'decline' - Amare is about a year away from being a freakin' donkey.  Orlando, hopefully, does not want that.

Yeah, Amare could be really hard to move. Need to find a team who is willing to take that financial risk. Probably only a big spender. Maybe Dallas or LA.

Heck, Dallas for a trade exception in the summer. I might do that if I am NY. Cut enough salary elsewhere and try to get back in the free agency game. Bring in someone who better complements Dwight Howard.

Isn't it the standard thing: March 1 or 2 months after the date he signed his current contract?

Yeah, its usually December 15th, but this year its March 1st.  But, that is the date that newly signed FA's can be traded this season.

Gotcha.  So he can be traded as of Thursday.  Still don't think they package him in to take a bad contract if they've already put Melo on the table.

I think they need to take back someone like Turkoglu, not because its a bad contract, but because they would need a wing who can score down the stretch.
