That dude is messed up right now. He had some family tragedies over the summer. It wasn't just getting dumped by LA. That Stephen A Smith interview right after the failed-Chris Paul trade was telling. He's messed up in the head.
LOL at Simmons saying the Celtics should trade for him so they could be a 'dangerous' 6 seed.
He is done, I think. Unless he goes back to LA and gets his head straightened out.
Sounds like he's just leaving the team to deal with a family matter, much like KG did a week or so back. Don't think it's really fair to pile on Lamar about that.
Lamar clearly came into the season out of shape, as many other players did (including Pierce). The trade probably didn't help him much, either.
Tall, athletic big men with shooting ability in their prime rarely drop off a cliff like this, though. He was sixth man of the year last year, and for much of the season played like an All-Star. It's hard for me to believe he doesn't still have that in him, though I think it won't be until next season -- when he's had time to sort himself out, get back into good shape, have a full training camp with a team, etc -- that he really starts to look like himself.
I don't think it would make sense to trade for Lamar this season, but I do think that it could make sense to take on Odom and Marion with our cap space over the summer if we did make some sort of win-now trade (such as trading Rondo for Gasol).
