Orlando, according to one source, is not interested in trading Dwight Howard to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum.

“I can tell you for a fact the Lakers offered Andrew Bynum and the Magic do not want him,” said a Western Conference executive.

Several insiders believe Howard will remain in Orlando for the remainder of the season.

It's from Peter Vecsey so take it for what it's worth, but this would be great for the C's if the Magic continue playing pretty good bball and hang onto Dwight for the rest of the year. Free Agency really is the only way the C's have a shot at landing Dwight.

The nets are probably on their hands and knees praying that Howard makes it to free-agency. If Dwight hit's free agency the Nets are probably favorites to sign Howard and doing so would basically guarantee Deron sticks. They only trade Williams if Howard is trade and they don't think they can keep Williams happy.

If the Magic don't trade DH12, they can offer him a 5th year which equates to $30m more than he can get from any other team on the FA market (which would be a 4 year deal only).  Word is the Magic might be willing to gamble by holding onto DH12 and call his bluff that we won't leave the $30m or so on the table.

Now think about this; agents have a very big influence on the player's decision, and what agent is going to leave $30m guaranteed on the table?  In 4-5 years, it's concievable DH12 won't be able to command another max contract.  He'l be in his early 30's and have 12-13 years of wear and tear on his body.

Otis Smith is a dumb dumb, thank goodness. The Magic aren't going to do too much better than Bynum a young player or two and picks. If I were him I'd tell the Lakers, Bynum is a good start, find some more pieces to make it worth while. They also should've traded him earlier in the season so they could tank for a high pick in this loaded draft. Taking the risk with Howard in free agency is just a really bad gamble.

It isn't really 30 million though since there is an extra year unless Dwight gets hurt and never plays again after that 4th year.  It is certainly more money per year, but not nearly what everyone makes it seem like.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

But they can also get stuck in eternal rebuilding if he doesn't come there AND they get nothing for Deron.

The Nets could still be the frontrunners for D12 with Rondo IF he intends to leave (still debatable) Orlando. They'd have a lot more room to play with for role players with Rondo making significantly less than Deron is/will.

that's much more reasonable for us than Rondo for a 32 year old Gasol, but Bynum is a punk

You are right in a sense; over the course of the first 4 years the Magic can give him a higher % raise, and it comes out to maybe $8-10m more.  The other $20-22m would could from that 5th year.  But the point is it is a risk (as the 5 years from ORL would all be guaranteed).  A 30 year old center getting hurt?  Not really unthinkable.

That's not a very nice thing to say about punks, but don't forget he's also a bit of a cripple. Granted that's not nice to cripples, or even adjectives in general at this point, but I had to use language on this one.

How long did you try 'interpretive dance' before you decided it wouldn't work in this medium?

Ray, KG and Paul given they would all stay wou;d get so many great looks off Bynums presence and the double teams imagine how deadly Ray would be?
