Give me Goran Dragic from Houston. Can be had for maybe a 2nd and exchange first. Or Luke Ridnour. Or trade the farm for IP's main man Kyle Lowry.

I could see a scenario where Houston sells high on Lowry while his value is at a maximum and signs Deron Williams as a free agent, but I don't think Boston could compete against other teams for that.
Could Houston trade Lowry for Pau and then sign Deron in the summer?

Would they have enough talent left to convince Deron to sign in Houston instead of Dallas?

Looks like they could just about squeeze Pau Gasol + Deron Williams + Kevin Martin + Sammy Dalembert but they'd have to sacrifice their young talent to do so. That may be a solid option if they could trade those youngsters for future first round picks. Rebuild that young depth down the road.

A trade package based around Lowry + Scola for Pau Gasol.

If we do trade Rondo & JO for Pau, we need to either try to get Darius Morris or their first rounder. Preferably their first round pick and have 3 picks around 19-26.

They have 2 first round picks. I would hold out for both. Rondo is more valuable to them than Gasol is to us as things stand right now.

I vehemently disagree.  Rondo is a very good player, but Gasol is one of the best centers in the league, and still in his prime.  He makes this team significantly better immediately, and I think his value is being really underrated here.

I actually think it is the C's who would have to add extra value in a deal of Rondo and JO for Gasol.

The Lakers, as they stand now, are contenders to win the West, although not even close to being favorites. Rondo pushes them a lot closer to that level.

We, however as currently constituted, aren't even close to being contenders in the East. Gasol obviously does a lot for us, but I don't think that he alone makes us contenders.

Eh, unless they also trade for Howard, I don't think Rondo makes them significantly better, because as much as he improves their backcourt, the loss of Gasol takes away their biggest advantage over other teams.  So, it is not a huge difference.

But thats not the point anyways.  Trade values aren't built around who makes each team closer to a contender, they are based around how much value the players have around the league.  And I personally believe that the Lakers could get more value for Gasol right now than the C's could get for Rondo.

The problem is his awful contract with 15% trade kicker.

If he isn't attracting a free agent like Dwight Howard to Boston, and even in that case we would have to waive/trade all of our team and not sign any rookies to have room for Howard/Pierce/Gasol.

He has to then be traded, but who would then pay him 24M then 24M ?
Your last option is to just contend for two more years with a really old core, I think he would prolonge the window of the Celtics but only for two years, maybe that is Ainge philisophy now, don't rebuild mode but contend mode.

What's even worse you'd have to amnesty or waive Pierce and it just get's uglier and uglier. I see some positives and some negatives.

I've heard there's this young guy who is like the best on the ball defender you've ever seen. He full court presses all-stars the entire game and it ticks them off and it infects the rest of the team with guts.  The best part is he's totally affordable and only 20 years old. He's also a halfway decent shooter, and can possibly pan out if he just gets more opportunities and confidence and encouragement. He was like the top recruit in the country a couple years ago but came out a little early and just tore up the d league.  And on the fastbreak just fogedaboudit. The dude posterized Durant just last week.

He's probably going to be hard to get ahold of, but I'd really like to get him

This.

Agreed, Chris. Gasol unquestionably has more value around the league than Rondo.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

The more I think about this rumour ....I think this could be a 3 team trade where Gasol heads to Houston and the Celtics get Lowry and Dalembert,or for taking Lowry we take on Scola's contract.

Houston

Dragic
Martin
Budinger
Gasol
Dalembert

Boston

Lowry
Allen
Pierce
Scola
KG

Lakers

Rondo
Kobe
Artest
Sheed
Bynum

In this case I see no team is really happy, Celtics get the crappy Scola though Lowry is good.

Houston get's Gasol, they lose Lowry but get's rid of Scola.

Lakers i'm not liking it for them too, they lose their advantage over other team's, their interior superiority.

Of all the names mentioned, I would take Sessions. Although, like Rondo he is a poor shooter. He does have strengths, he can create shots for others, handle the ball, get in the lane and score. He's also a solid rebounder. I've always liked his game and I would like to see some team give him a chance to develop.

Lowry would be a good fit but I don't think Houston has any interest in trading him.
Andre Miller is about to turn 36, can't shoot but can still score and run the offense.
Hinrich was always overrated although I wouldn't mind him as a back-up.
Dragic is decent but I wouldn't feel comfortable with him running the team.

Avery Bradley in m opinion is just not that good. Aside from his pressure defense I really don't see what he has to offer. He can't penetrate or create shots for himself or anyone else and he's not a good shooter at this point in his career.

With Gasol...more better players might show up....maybe Rivers would be a good pick with Rono gone.

Gasol is no so injury prone as Bynum .

To me DWill is either going to get Howard to join him in NJ or they both will go to Dallas.  Houston isn't going to happen for him...
