So what course of action do YOU want Danny+the office to take?
If we (probably) lose out on Dwight Howard, should we completely forget a serious re-tool around Rondo?
Obviously Danny will wait to see what happens with Deron/Dwight.
When he/they go to the Nets or Mavs, do you accumulate picks and put yourself in a position to get lucky? As Lebron and Wade reach the end of their tenure on the NBA, put ourselves in a position to take over the league just as the OKC Thunder have done as the Lakers and Celtics slowly fall away from the top spot?
Right now I see two main options for Danny:
A) rebuild around Rondo, which means moving Pierce for cap spacemost likely and letting Jeff Green have his time in the sun, getting other star veterans with capspace like Gasol+Iguadala+ another high level FA (James Harden?) over the next two years. Perhaps as Elrod Enchilada mentions in his recent article, we sign Ray and KG to the two 2.5 million exceptions and bolster our bench with them given this route.
B) Or completely blow it up and rebuild from scratch.
If we choose option B, I'm conflicted on keeping Rondo or using him as our most powerful chip in order to get one of those lottery picks that we desperately need.
If we got lucky and had a shortish rebuild of 3-4 years, he'd be 29 and still in his prime, but a more likely 7-10 year rebuild means we miss most of his glory days and end up with less assetts than we need for 7-8 years from now.
What option do you choose?
Or do you have another preference?
