None of this makes sense at all really...

the whole reason the Nets signed D.will was to go after Howard if he makes it to free agency...its pretty obvious Deron is going to leave if they dont get howard...but you dont have a chance at howard without holding onto D.Will at least until this summer and sell them both on the idea of playing together in brooklyn.

Does anyone really think D.Will would leave if Howard said "hey ill play in NJ"

williams isnt getting traded..and if Howard doesnt come here, the celts are stuck with their hands in their pants...thats a risk you take for CP3...arguably a top 5 player in this league..not for Deron Williams..who doesnt look particularly impressive with the nets

Again, I don't think D-Will is going to resign in NJ, as the Mavs appear willing to shed capspace to sign Deron this offseason.

Well, my thinking is that NJ has to get SOMETHING for D-Will.  If he just walks - they totally lose out.  I don't think they will find a much better offer out there than Rondo, who is a top 5 PG, young and has a contract that is reasonable.  NJ has to do what's best for their team - not what's worst for Boston...

Williams may be the magic ticket to Dwight, but it doesn't look like NJ will hold that ticket after this season either way.

So, I see what you're saying... NJ has to weigh their options... take the sure thing of Rondo and nothing else (and I mean nothing else, b/c there is no way Dwight signs on to that team this offseason) or roll the dice on getting D-Will and Dwight with the risk of having no D-Will, no nothing.

I think the risk is worth it.  Rondo + nothing guarantees you mediocrity.  D-Will + Dwight gives you a chance at multiple championships.

Thanks.  I agree that the risk is worth it, but will the NJ ownership?  Do they really want to risk having a totally horrible team with no names on the roster for another decade?

Also, wouldn't you think that DWill and Howard would be smart enough to see that the pieces that are already in Boston would give them a much better shot at a title?  D-Will, Howard, PP - plus possibly Ray and KG looks a lot better than those 2 with MarShon Brooks and Anthony Morrow....

Considering they are going to be signing 5 year contracts, I think that Brooks, Morrow, Humphries, and Brook Lopez are a bit more enticing squad than Pierce, and possibly Ray and KG

Am I the only one who thinks d.will has been underwhelming this year? He's shooting 41% from the field...averages less assists and less steals than rondo....cp3 is a franchise changing player...dwill while an allstar isn't at that level

Sure his scoring stats look better..but when you take that many shots of course they will look good. When you look closer and he's only hitting 41% of them...plus the guy is NOT going to stay in boston...its nice to dream though. I think ainge stays pat with rondo..and the nets with d.will they have already said they are willing to let d.will walk for a chance to land howard

I don't think we're getting any FA impact players like DH, I think he keeps the extra 30Mill Orlando offers and sees if they can get him a good guard.  We don't have anything to trade but Rondo to get those types of players. Unless Danny is a better Snake Oil Salesman than I give him credit for.

I just see DA letting the big three's contracts expire and starting over from there. Too bad we can lose the rest of the games this season.

I just hate this stuck in the middle , barely good enough to make playoffs and not bad enough to draft high in the lottery.

yeah, the logic is kind of faulty.

NJ will trade D-Will go us because he's going to leave in free agency, anyway; Dwight will come to the Celtics if they can trade for Deron mid-season, because he wants to play with Deron.

If Deron, even on an expiring contract, is an automatic lure for Howard, why would the Nets ever trade him?

D-Will may be the magic ticket to getting Howard, but only once he's committed to signing with a particular team -- and that team may very well not be the team with which he finishes the season.

If Williams is going to walk anyway - why wouldn't they deal him for Rondo rather than just lose him?  Howard's situation won't even matter if Williams doesn't want to be in NJ...

  But why would Williams walk if Howard was going to come to NJ (Brooklyn) in the offseason? Why would he want to play in Boston over NY?

Its a trade that makes absolute sense, because D12 is not going to NJ next year. He'll have to be traded before the dead to NJ in order for him to play there. D-Will is not staying in NJ for another losing season neither is D12 going to NJ to suffer another losing season. Those 2 along with their surrounding pieces can't get it done.

D12 is better off staying in Orl with a better supporting cast & more money than going to NJ. This trade is great for both teams because the Celts need a mature point guard that wants to be surrounded by mature experience players. NJ in return gets a locked young pg to distribute to their young players. The only risky move here is getting D-Will to agree to an extension with a supporting cast. Then hopefully, in the offseason D12 decides to take his talents to the New England...lol

2 Big If's here with regard to the original post:

We trade for Deron (maybe) if...

A.  Magic trade Howard to Lakers not Nets (logically this prompts Dwill to leave NJ)

B.  Then if Dwill agrees to void his opt out, giving us 1.5 years with him, we could try to trade for him but only if we think Deron is worth more at 18 million than Rondo is at 11 million.
