Look I'll admit it I'm one of those guys whose gotten caught up in the Rondo trade talk time and again. After all when it seems as though this team has no chance, and we need a trade, Rondos the only guy that could get us anything good in return..

But after thinking about it for awhile I realized...Boston will regret trading him if it happens.

Celtics fans have plenty of reason to be hostile toward Rondo... the inconsistent play that seems to be a result of his moodiness, the bad shooting, etc.

But not only has he improved his jumpshot and ft% there is one thing Rondo has, more so than any other player I've ever seen in this league... heart.

He embodies what it is to be a Celtic. When he's playing poorly it's reason to get upset, call for a trade... but when he's playing at his best, there isn't a better pg in this league.

The other thing we need to realize is that Rondo clashes a bit with the play style of the big 3. But that's why the lineup Sunday worked... Players like Wilcox are players that fit Rondo's speed and allow him to start off well.

In other words, we can't simply assume Rondo is playing bad for no reason. Line up changes bring the best out of Rondo. The point here... a team can be built around the kid. It'll have the speed of the Miami Heat, and hey that seems to work pretty well.

A team built around Rondo is better than the alternative of trading him. Mark my words, if he's traded, Boston will regret it...

Oh and to end it, who can forget this performance?

No point in trading him when we can attract FA's in the next 1-2 years. Boston not an attraction for FA's? Then why trade Rondo and rent a player only to lose them after.

The Chicago game, even though Rose was out, showed how he can put this team on his shoulders. Pierce and Ray were cold until the end so Rondo stepped up.

I'd be really hurt if we trade him. But after the perkins move, I don't see Danny making a move like that again.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

He ain't goin no where...simply because there is no offer whatsover out there that I think would make us better this yr or the next.(not even a trade for d.will would improve us).  Besides it would rock the chemistry so hard we would either a) not make the  playoffs at all and b) make the playoffs and be gone in the first round.

I would rather ride Rondo wherever it gets us. Besides.. Lets all remember that Rondo always saves his best come playoff time. Last year was totally different since its the first time Rondo got injured so it had a butterfly effect on everyone...we ain't beating the Heat with a one armed Rondo and no Shaq.

Lets all be positve and I would just trust Danny to do the right thing.

you can bet if we lose and he underperforms, people would be asking for his head again..rondo is an eccentric, the more you try to understand his psyche as a player, all the more you'll get no answers, he is what he is, you just have to measure up with him..one thing's sure, he lays it on the floor every night..

Some Boston fans, you mean.

And most certainly, the meltdown on this blog would be nothing short of epic.

Me, personally, it's been six years and we still have a wildly uneven player, from the effort he most certainly can control to other factors.

I'm open to a deal, believe Ainge was 100 percent correct to try to get into the Paul sweepstakes. Gotta be the right deal - no interest in Steve Nash.

But I'm open to a deal to improve this ballclub, and inject some consistency into its effort, overall and at the PG position.

We'd regret it if Danny traded Rondo for a hill of beans.  If he traded him for an impact, star-level player, I think we'd be fine.  Rondo's inconsistent play might have sunk his trade value below that level, but if Danny can somehow extract a good return for Rondo, there's no reason why we shouldn't explore trading him.

only trade right now that interests me for Rondo is Deron Williams. If Howard is moved before the deadline, NJ might want to get something for DWill and Rondo + picks (or JJJ, etc) is pretty darn good value.

I love watching Rondo play, but I feel like the consistency of DWill could make the team closer to being a contender.

not 100% on this but certainly would consider it.

Impossible to say that without knowing what you're hypothetically trading him for.

I believe Ainge has said somewhere that he would only make a deal involving Rondo if he got a super star in return. I believe him when he says that and trust his judgement on what a superstar is in this league..which is a very very short list of players that are virtually unattainable unless there's a similar situation to that of Chris Paul a couple months ago and D12.

I think a trade of Rondo would be as much about a culture change as it would be about talent.  So, I think they would take the risk of him excelling on another team, if they decide to go that way.

But I also think they would try to trade him to the Western Conference, so they don't have to see him 4 times a year.

I get that, but part of what I'm saying is that the inconsistency has plenty to do with the current big 3 line-up. Rondos speed penetrating play style is different than the big 3s and can cause inconsistency in his play, but when given a lineup with his caliber speed (wilcox, jjj) he strives as we saw sunday. So when the big 3 retires, build a team of speed around him and he'll be very consistent and a franchise player. There's no trade we can do this year that would better the team to that level except maybe dwill and thats not happening...

I don't get how people call Rondo a headcase and then clamor for Deron Williams. And I'm not just referring to the Sloan/Utah debacle, I haven't been impressed with him since he's been in NJ. I understand he doesn't have the most talented teammates, but he's supposed to be the superstar and the leader on that team and he's been spotted sulking on the court more than once this season.

But you know what they say, the grass is always greener on the other side.....

Have you seen how well Deron has played with NJ? He's been very good, outside of the slow start this season. He's still the second best PG behind Paul.

I have seen him play, and again I'm not in awe like some. D.Will averages 20pts on 41% on a team that's 8-21. I just don't think he's the grand savior some think he is. CP3 is the pest PG in the league, D.Rose is right there after him and after that it's a crapshoot.

But back to the point of this thread, I genuinely hope we don't trade Rondo. I'm a fan. With that said, I do understand he has flaws in his game that would frustrate some. But I've come to accept the good with the bad, and I'm not painting him into some portrait of what he should be. I'm just going to enjoy what he is; a very good, borderline all-star PG that takes his game to a higher level in the playoffs.
