  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
So lately I've posted trade ideas on different blogs to guage how realistic certain trade scenarios would be if it came to crunch time.

I proposed Rondo+JO+ a first round pick for Nash+Gortat.
So far, there have been 20 something replies and they've all basically said no way.

Here's one reply:
"Boston 2012 (and 2014 1st round pick if possible) 1st round pick plus Rondo, Bass and Avery Bradley
They also need to take the contract of Frye or Childress."

Are these guys kidding?
What do they seriously think they'll get for Nash at age 38?

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

i hate all the trade rondo proposals (i wouldn't trade him for lowry/holiday or lin  ???), but i would do rondo + o'neal + bass for nash + gortat, and at the same time pick up frye contract, (big men are overpaid anyways), if we could get indiana to pick up o'neal contract the cost saving may be too tempting for sarver, especially if we pick either childress or frye contracts at the same time.

something like this

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7gy74vq

just hope indy don't land kaman. hopefully stern and his cohorts will send him moreys way.

i'd love to have nash on my team and give him a real shot at the title, but at the expense of rondo is quite hard to digest..

one thing i worry with nash is if u give him a bunch of guys that don't run, how effective would he be

also if u ask him to play d, how much that takes away from offense

For Nash AND Gortat. FFS, Gortat isn't a throw in!

The best I would do is
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7awfk8w

Boston Sends
Rondo,JO,Bass,Avery,and 2012 1st

for

Nash,Gortat, and Frye

Nash, Dooling
Ray, Pietrus, Moore
Pierce, Pietrus, Daniels
KG, Frye, JJJ
Gortat, Frye, Wilcox

I would do this trade if danny can get a commitment next year from Nash, Ray and KG all to sign 1 year deals. That would alow us to resign those 3 Pietrus ,J Green and Wilcox (as long as they will take short deals). We would need to find a back up PG wither in FA or the draft. That gives us 1 1/2 seasons to compete at the top of the east with an old team but a deep bench. After that alot of money comes off the books and we just have Pierce, JJJ, Gortat, and Frye on the books to start the rebuild. At that point we can ship gortat and frye to contenders looking for bigs.

Yeah, this offer is right on the border on whether I'd do this or not.  Celts get a lot, but give up a lot.

Players like Rondo are hard to come by especially at the PG position.

I don't see how we can trade him because we'll never get even value in return.

If anything we need to trade for players like Rondo...young, athletic, high basketball IQ, players with will and determination.

Yeah he can't shoot but he can work on that and still be able to score and generate offense with the right players next to him.

Is it really that hard to come by players like Rondo especially at the pg position? I don't agree at all arguably there are 10-15 pgs in the league that are either better, the same, or a little worse than Rondo.

Paul, williams, Rose, westbrook, curry, Irving, Evans, Rubio, Wall, Parker, Holiday, Collison, Nash, Lawson, Conley

The pg position is actually pretty stacked

The league is so geared towards 1 on 1 play with no physical contact on the perimeter that its a guards league. There are alot of athletic 5'11-6'3 guys in this world. These things together make for a league full of quality PGs. Not many can create like rondo but many are better scorers.

This is a laughable assessment of talent. First of all, Evans is a shooting guard, and not even a terribly good one at that. Holiday, Lawson, Collison, and Conley are all good, but none of them are all-star caliber. Conley is underrated, but none of them are very far above average. Tony Parker can still play, but he is no longer the Finals MVP he once was ... his defense especially has faltered, and his TS% is below the league average (Rondo's, by the way, is actually ABOVE the league average for point guards ... his shooting woes are entirely overrated).

And everyone talking about Rubio > Rondo cracks me up. Rubio is a poor man's Rondo in almost every way. He's a pass-first point guard who isn't great at knocking down shots, and is good at grabbing steals. However, Rondo is actually a much more efficient scorer than Rubio (the latter has a woefully bad TS%, below 50, while Rondo is hovering around 53, which again is above average), as well as a better defender. And Rubio is much more turnover prone than Rondo, and that is saying something because Rondo does turn the ball over a good amount.

Irving is overrated. He's a score first PG in the vein of Westbrook, though he's better at it than Westbrook is. (Westbrook, by the way, is extremely overrated. Look at his advanced metrics ... he struggles to stay above the LEAGUE AVERAGE in efficiency). Irving is above average, but not by much.

I'm not even going to address your idea that John Wall is an elite point guard.

Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, and Derrick Rose are the only point guards who are CLEARLY better than Rondo at this point, and I think you could even argue that Deron Williams is overrated, but that's a different story. Curry is approximately on par with Rondo, I would say, though he has a completely different style of play and skill set. But he is an extremely underrated point guard. Kyle Lowry, too, I would put just below Rondo and Curry, followed by Westbrook and Rubio and Irving.

  • Rondo = Good
. . . and people think I'm ridiculous when I say that people outside Boston don't think Rondo is worth as much in a trade as most of the fans here do.

I believe this is what the poster was referring to.

This really doesn't surprise me. Rondo's value is always at its highest after a strong playoff performance.  This season he has been very inconsistent and injured.  Other teams also hear about him being a bit of a diva.

Not to mention that he can barely shoot, or make FT's.
Thats all the obvious though.

What I'm saying is it makes perfect sense that a team who does not see Rondo on a night IN night OUT basis would be turned off by this guy.

Add Brandon Jennings too.  Hes playing really well this year.  Id like to see some sort of Rondo + Others/Picks for a Bogut/Jennings trade take place.  Granted Bogut is hurt, but it would be a good start.
