Is this a dirty tactic by the Bulls? Boozer makes himself bleed to get a timeout after the Bulls have used all their timeouts up.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think this was BS.
They've run out of time outs and he cuts himself on the right arm, after Thibadeau has called him over earlier (obviously to suggest+initiate the blood time out to Boozer).

This rule is bogus and I don't know if they should remove it, but if they keep it, their should be consequences for doing it.
The Celtics have earned the right for Chicago to be out of timeouts- they shouldn't be able to abuse the system like this.
There are also health/safety issues with this. I'm not sure people would be happy to see Magic Johnson do something like this, and I'm 100% serious, Garnett had Boozers blood quite visibly on his singlet.

possible consequences;

*the player misses a game or two.
*organization is fined BIG.
*coach misses a game

Cutting yourself on purpose is not in the spirit of the game not just competition wise but in the general interest of player health.
It was a smart move at the time, and the Bulls are taking advantage of the rules ie: angle shooting for all you poker players out there.

What do you think?

He did this?

Wow.

I voted dirty/cheap.

The organization should be fined and the coach misses a game, too.

So do we teach our kids to cut themselves during a game, too lol..

Agree with everything you have posted.

I think the league needs to address the problem moving forward.  Thibs has just exposed a rule, so give him credit for that.  I dont think the Bulls or Thibs should be fined in this instance.

Also, I dont necessarily agree with suspending or fining a particular individual, but feel it more appropriate to fine the organization.

NBA, put a rule in place, along with a penalty for those caught.  Nip this type of manipulation in the bud before it becomes bigger.

It shows just how Belichickian Thibs is.

Genius, but they definitely need to be punished and the rule has definitely got to change

But how big of a fine for an organization to deter this happening? It's hard to see being completely eradicated unless they remove the blood time out rule altogether.
example scenario:
If that was the Eastern Conference Finals, 7 game series, tied at 3 games all. Bulls are down two points with no timeouts.
Boozer cuts himself, they get the time out and run a complex play to get Kyle Korver a good look at the three point shot.
Kyle drains it and Bulls go to the Finals.
Korver gets nothing, Bulls get huge fine.
If you owned the Bulls would you pay 100K for that timeout? 1 million?
Korver missing 2 games?
I would throw the money at the NBA and laugh.

I think the fine needs to be set in stone for both the reg season and playoffs.

As for the penalty, i think 100k team fine is sufficient.  That coupled with public disgust and possible backlash will more than likely ensure it doesnt occur again.

I don't mind it, if a dude wants to cut himself I say go for it.

Course it could be like the NFL and say if you have to leave the game due to injury with no timeouts remaining you can't come back into the game until the next stoppage in play.

I turned away when this happened; did TV replay actually show him cutting himself?  Or are we just assuming that is what happened?  He could have easily gotten a finger nail scrape from someone fighting for a loose ball or rebound (or he could have done it himself).

If a guy got caught doing it, it's presumably at least a delay of game, right?  I've got no problem with them amending the rule to make it an automatic tech, similar to calling a timeout you don't have.

Yeah, I'm think its a technical foul and then if you only catch it post game a fine.
