76ers get

Rondo   10 mill 4 years
JOn 6 mill 1 year
Brandon Bass 4.25 mill 2 years
Chris Willcox 3 mill 1 year

Celts get
Elton Brand 17 mill 2 years
Andres Nocioni 6.65 mill 2 years
Jrue Holliday 1.7 mill 2 years
lottery protected draft pick
2nd rounder

What works for each team

The 76ers get 2 mill of cap relief this year, which saves them another 2mill against the luxury tax. They get the best player in the deal, who if allowed to run with young guys like Lou WIll, Evan Turner, etc could be a beast. Guys like Evan Turner, etc get a huge confidence boost with a real pass first pg. Rondo brings some confidence and defense to a young team that needs it. They get out from under two horrid contracts.

The Celts make playing time available for JuJuan Johnson, another future asset to rebuild with the draft pick, they get to extend the window an extra year or two with Elton Brand, after next year the Celts get tremendous cap relief with which they could resign Jrue. Jrue is one of the best young guys in the league and it might open some minutes for Avery B. Suddenly we have a pg that can shoot.

I think there might be some addition by subtraction here.

Problems....I'm not 100% sure Brand is better than Bass, but I am sure Brand and JuJuan J is better than JON, Bass, and Wilcox.

I'm not sure if it screws up for not being able to sign free agents this summer, but if we win a ring they'll want to come, plus Ray and KG take pay cuts anyway. If Jeff Green comes back (strong) we might be able to extend the window another year after this one. If he enjoyed his time here Wilcox is still a free agent after this year and could come back.

I'm not sure about this one, I think this makes us worse up front and Rondo > Jrue (although Jrue is developing into quite a player). I guess it picks us a draft pick but I can't see this happening.

One thing I was trying to do was get JJJ on the court a lot more, and I'm not sure that happens if Bass and JON are still around. It gives us another roster spot but if Ainge gets someone like Eric Dampier then I'm not sure it works. If he uses the roster spot to get maybe JR Smith or someone good then it works. It makes us more vulnerable to injury up front, but if KG gets hurt we're screwed anyway

And then we have no centers. Holiday is good but not in a trade for rondo. Why would we want someone like brand? That doesnt help the future. JJJ will get playing time next year regardless so no need for this.

We (Danny) should only trade rondo for a solid replacement who is young and can have a leadership presence. or a group of role players who can contribute
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

We have no centers now.  Wilcox is 6ft 10 and weighs 235lbs.  JON shouldn't be playing

The trade works very similarly if we send Dooling instead of Wilcox. Do that and let them keep the 2nd rounder

We only kill the cap space for one year and in return get a younger pg who can actually shoot and an inside guy that can actually play, neither of which we have right now.  Plus the draft picks.

The question I have is whether or not Bass is better than Brand. If so then Bass needs to play more.

I wouldn't be so sure that Rondo is the best player in that trade.  And there is no way in hell Philly makes that trade.  They aren't messing with their chemistry like that to take on injury prone players and give up a first and second rounder in the process.

I am sure Philly would make some moves, but I am also sure they would be centered on Iggy (maybe Brand).

I think they would look at something like Pierce for Iggy or KG for Brand, but no way they are giving up Holiday for Rondo as Holiday is a much better fit for what they do offensively.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Although it is 6'4 point guard at 21. I'd still seriously consider it.

Nice idea.

This allows Philly to contend instantly and we'd get a point guard who'll actually fit.

I'd do it in a heartbeat if we get just a little more out of it...like a Pekovic or something. Just someone who will push us further.

The trade doesn't work for the Celtics, in my opinion. The Celtics need to add depth inside, not deplete it for one player. If the Celtics want to play JJJ, they should just do so. We'll know in the next 2 weeks if he's a better rotation option than Bass.

Good point....although we already know every big is a better option than JON and Doc keeps playing him. I'd rather play Avery B at center

We really don't know that, some of us realize that he's in there mainly for his defense.

That's just a terrible deal for the Celtics.  Rondo is vastly superior to Holiday right now, Brand's deal is bad news for our salary cap flexibility and we give up two quality role players for Nocioni!

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups
SG: Kobe Bryant
SF: Jimmy Butler
PF: Pau Gasol

Allow me to be sarcastic and possibly condescending for a moment

Oh riiiighhttt.   You never worry about the other team outscoring us when JON is in there? We're all like "Alll riiighttt! JON is in there to give us some major defensive minutes! They'll never score now?"

Ya gotta be able to run and jump to play defense
