LeBron proved in Cleveland he can go deep in the playoffs with almost nothing.

But riah has Collison, Landry, Mullens, Battier, and Reddick to put with leBron

That's gotta be good enough for the WCF anyway.

Makes my path *Wishful thinking* so much harder.
Dude you have a very good team with a huge future and current superstar.

Problem is Lebron is still the best player in the world, is always healthy and just 27

Hey guys, remember that Time IP said he had the best staring 5? That was adorable.

PG: Steve Nash
SG: Dwayne Wade
SF: Danny Granger
PF: Derrick Favors
C: Marcin Gortat

6th man: Udonis Haslem.
Start Haslem over Favors

I agree, actually.

Haslem is better in limited minutes, especially after the foot issues. Also, Nash is gonna turn Favors into a monster.
Need Haslem to provide some floor spacing.

Am I wrong in thinking Gortat is wet?

New Look Sums:

Collison
Reddick
Lebron
Landry
Mullens

Battier

thoughts??

It's kind of reminding me of one of the better of LeBron's Cleveland teams, not that that's a bad thing since they went to one final and a few conference champoinships.

Well, I'd like it a lot more if Landry weren't injured (MCL), and Collison and Mullens weren't so unproven. Battier is a nice steady hand off the bench. But you've got a lot of work to do to fill out the roster.

Gortat makes something like one jump shot a game. Not a guy you can depend on to keep your spacing.

More of a "anything you get outta him is gravy" sort of jump shooter. A small bonus.

No, Gortat isn't a good jump shooter.  From 10-to-15 feet, he shoots 33%, and from 16-to-23, he's a more respectable 45%, but he only makes 0.7 such shots per game.

Haha, that's why I put wishful thinking.  Not so confident my team can beat the Suns right now, and I doubt LeBron will start tailing off for another 4 or 5 years.

I remember him being better when he was in Orlando. Either way, I'm not that concerned with the spacing. If you cheat off Gortat or Favors, is their a guard duo that would make you pay more than Nash and Wade?

I think it's a 45-49 win team and first round playoff exit.

There are a couple of things I'd love to see you do to improve the team ...

Firstly, I would move Carl Landry to the bench. He is ill-suited as a starter due to his limitations as a defender/rebounder but is a fantastic shot-creator out of the post to have coming off your bench.

Secondly, I'd move Byron Mullens to the bench for the same reason (limitations as a defender/rebounder) and again replace him with a part time starter. It could be a 10-15 minute a night player or a 20-25 minute a night player depending on what type of quality you can get.

Thirdly, I'd move Darren Collison. I don't think he is a good fit alongside a ball-dominant wing like LeBron James. There are a couple of direction you could go in. You could either trade him for a pick or player and (1) replace him with more of an off-the-ball type PG, or, (2) you could dump the PG altogether and play another wing (perhaps Battier). Let JJ Redick initiate the offense and LeBron be your creative playmaker. You could bring D.Collison off the bench as a change of pace PG in that scenario with Battier starting. That could work.

At least that is what I'd be looking to do with that roster to give it more shape. More defensive integrity while maximizing the talent that are already on your team.

Question: Does Wade's need for the ball negate Nash's ability to create and be the floor general he is so great at being?

Because if wade has the ball 50% of the time, like he does with Lebron, that relegates Nash to three point shooting to space the floor and defense. One of those things he can do, the other he can't.

That's why the Wade/Lebron kinda works. Because as they share the basketball and one or the other take control, the other can still J and get back and play defense like mad.

Absolutely -- there is definitely a level of diminishing returns from Nash and Wade.

There is only one basketball and both need a large amount of time on the ball to fully utilize their talents. They won't be able to get that.

Granger has to be fed too. Not time on the ball (he is a 1-2 dribble player) but shot attempts. Between Nash and Granger, I don't see Wade's role being any larger offensively than it was last year with LeBron. And Nash will have to accept a smaller role than he has had in Phoenix in order to make it work.

I was wondering about that, but if Nash and Wade both play 36 minutes a game, which is probably low for Wade and high for Nash, that leaves a possible 24 minutes a game where only one is on the court.  This assumes that there is always at least one on the court at a time.

Phoenix trades: Steve Nash, Marcin Gortat, Danny Granger

Miami trades: Lebron James, Darrin Collison, 4.27

on a talent level, I think Miami loses on the deal but since they still have another franchise player in Wade and in terms of how the players fit with Wade this deal makes sense for them.

You know what I just realized?  There are four MVP awards involved in this trade.  The rest of the league combines for six.

Yes, Luol Deng is terribly underrated.

And yes, he is a Cleveland Cav.

And yes, he is probably just the third best player on the Cavs.
