Trade with the Nets, but not for Deron...for Lopez

After tonight, I'm sold that we need a center more anything. We don't need a star point guard now, especially not one who doesn't work well at all in this system (in my opinion, Rondo is like a very good motor but with barely compatible parts, the car's not going to run).

We should trade with the Nets but not for Deron Williams as so many here suggest...but for Brook Lopez.

This trade would need a third team with point guard needs. For example:

Why for the Nets? They're chasing Dwight, who looks like he's going into the free agency. Since Dwight doesn't want to follow in Shaq's footsteps (or whatever...honestly who the hell knows what he's thinking), New Jersey/Brooklyn is a very likely Dwightstination. With Deron's staying a question mark and Brook Lopez a questionable prospect, getting a bargain contract like Rondo in return with another big piece from a third team is not a bad starting point (for getting Dwight or rebuilding).

Why for team three? Deron Williams.

Why for Boston? This team needs a center. Bad. With a decent presence in the middle we would've been able to make a run instead of trading buckets. Too many defensive possessions have ended with a score not because of our defense, but because of rebounding. With KG's tutelage, Brook Lopez is worth more to us than to the Nets.

What do you guys think? Good idea? Are there better third legs than Indiana?

This is actually not a bad idea as I think this trade does benefit all 3 teams, equally.

There are two things however that could certainly prevent this from happening.

1.) NJ trading Brook Lopez. I've got a feeling that as long as Dwight Howard is attainable via trade, NJ might hold onto Lopez as "Dwight bait" (got a nice ring to it.)

2.) Indiana giving up Granger and Collison. On the fence about whether Indiana trades two players. I'd say for D-Will, yes they would.

This is one of those trade ideas where i wanna say I really don't wanna trade Rondo. But if we're getting these kind of talent back for him, do it.

In my opinion this gives them one shot at the title this year. Its like the mentality we had when we wanted to trade for Chris Paul except afterwards their window would still be wide open afterwards with their young players all having good playoff experience.

Good point. That was the best I came up with at that point in time.

The third team is pretty crucial to this since it determines whether there is even a chance D-Will would stay and what asset the Nets get in return, essentially, for Brook Lopez.

I suppose Atlanta might fit the bill even better. J-Smoove and Rondo is a hell of a defensive tandem.

We could even throw in JO for Zaza Pechulia or something. We might lose out a little but still nice.

Rondo is a better PG than Lopez is a Center. And I'm not fully sold on Collison either. Much rather throw in Anthony Morrow and use the draft to get a pg, like Rivers. Who better than his own father to show him how to be a SG yet own the PG position

Deron is better than both Rondo and Granger.  Dwight should definitely prefer to play with him.

This is the crux of it.

Because surely NJ can make this trade and then pursue Dwight in f.a.

In Granger, Dwight gets his 2nd scorer he needs (not of Deron's standard, but only one step down), and in Rondo he gets a 3rd scoring option, and a better passing guard than he's ever played with.

pretty intresting , we get betr on offence BUT not sold on lopez to be honest we need a tough rebounder who'll bang with the bigs in OKC & LA for some reason lopez dosent really fit the culture here in boston to me

My guess is this deal would only happen after Howard is traded elsewhere (such as LA).  At which case, New Jersey might put Williams on the market.

With that said, there is no way they are trading Williams AND Lopez for two downgrades value-wise.  Lopez, even with his faults, has much more value than Granger, even if its just for his contract, and Williams still has a lot more value than Rondo, if he goes to a team that thinks they can sign him.

With that said, you replace Granger with George, and I think this could be a very interesting deal for all teams involved.

I especially like Lopez for the C's, because he will have a cap hold of only about $7.5 million next season I believe.  That gives the C's a little extra wiggle room to reload around him, before you sign him to a bigger longterm deal (which will be necessary...he is not signing anywhere for cheap).
