if we can get a first rounder from LA, I am now on board with a Rondo for Gasol swap.

I wrote a super long post that didn't get much of a response explaining my reasons against the trade here: http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=53233.msg1136419#msg1136419

However, I am beginning to be concerned that as every day goes by, the more and more Rondo's trade value declines.  Since we are accepting the fact that Rondo is almost assuredly going to be dealt - are we going to do better than Pau Gasol? I know this move would help LA I think, and we know it isn't worth doing that.  Every year the Lakers don't win the title is like the Celtics winning half a championship.  We don't want them passing us in titles.  Rondo will work really well with Bynum, and that gives LA Rondo and Bynum to build around for a lot. And with Rondo's cheap salary, once Kobe is off the books - they will get another guy to come there EASILY.  So, that's not good.  But still, Pau Gasol, I've always been a fan.  And I just don't see us doing anywhere near him for Rondo.  I realy don't.  So many teams in the league have PGs.  The Lakers have a GLARING hole, and they have Pau playing out of position (he's more of a center now.)  Unless the Jazz will somehow offer us Millsap for Rondo (and maybe a first, and hell, even throw in JJJ), then this is the deal, imo.

I say the first is the dealbreaker because we should maybe facilitate a three way.  We send them Rondo and JO('s expiring deal), they send us Gasol, and then they send one of their first rounders and part of their TE to Cleveland for Sessions.  Cleveland sends us Sessions.  Anyone like?

gasol is kg two or three years ago, ppl kg lead the league in rebounding 3 years straight don't forget, would u trade rondo for the last two year production from garnett at the same $20 mil salary level, don't think so

Rondo for pre-injury KG?  Yeah, I'd do that at this point.

how much of kg decline wasn't due to the injury, and how likely is he in getting injuried those are my doubts

I would do it, too, if I felt it would make us a contender.

I'm not sure if Rondo for Gasol would make us a contender.  Probably would if we could also swing a deal for a game managing point guard like Ramon Sessions.

I think we could even get by with Steve Blake, who was a nice facilitator pretty much everywhere prior to the Lakers.  But yes, Sessions would be fantastic.

Isn't it crazy how they are both similar right now in that they are struggling, Gasol not as much but both not playing to their potential can do so much for their team but simply aren't getting it done. It's like when either plays like an All Star it puts there teams right there with the best of them when not they are average.

Such a trade would probably entail helping the Lakers assemble a core of Rondo + Kobe + Howard; but honestly, I'm not so sure that core would be all that scary.

I'd be cool with this.

I pull the trigger on Rondo and Jermaine O'Neal for Gasol right this minute. Slide Gasol into the starting lineup with KG. Put Avery Bradley in Rondo's spot. Moore gets additional minutes at the PG spot or Dooling if he can't handle that. We get better defensively at the PG spot with Bradley, Gasol's offensive ability, along with his much better durability, far outweighs losing JO's defensive presence down low. With 2 seven footers that can score down low, and the team not depending on Rondo to create we have a much better chance at contending. Do it now if the Lakers would consider that. By freeing up that salary space it gives the Lakers more options so it is possible.

We still be playing 4 on 5 for offense with Bradley.  He has the same problems on offensive as Rondo except he has a lower basketball IQ.   How did you like his cut out of balance last night.

I think he has potential and the team did play well with him starting when rondo was out. Still I'd be nervous with him as a permanent starting pg, thats why id want to get blake as well or sessions somehow. A halfway decent pg and gasol would make this team a contender

Crazy trade there haha but as a GM I'd do it in a heartbeat... you're not getting a better deal for rondo anywhere else, and to be honest I think its time we stop pointing fingers about "helping the lakers" and worry about our own team. If this trade helps the lakers, so be it if it helps us too. Let us both contend again, at least then we can get revenge for 2010
