He is the single reason we have not won another title IMO.

Hear me out...

Look at a game like this, where we come in hot, playing great D, doing the things we do best. But on Offense, the Lakers LITERALLY did not guard him. Is there any other "Superstar" even All-Star that can be said about? He is an absolute liability on offense, and his time here will be over soon.

I love Rondo too, but he is the reason we dont win big games anymore, its because we are playing 4 on 5 on offense.

They should have put Ray at the point in this game and went:
Ray
Pierce
Pietrus
Bass
KG

We would have won easily, IMO.

Exactly. 4th quarter and overtime come along and he only takes cute little 17 foot jumpers and does not drive to the basket.

I think blaming Rondo as the sole reason we haven't won a title since 2008 is a bit much.  I think it's had more to do with injuries and a lack of size.

I do agree, though, that for an all-star, Rondo disappears (and appears utterly useless) way too much.

Only if they can get a big man that can score in the post for him.   Bringing in another wing player isn't going to make them any better this year.  You want to make one last push, the only way to do it may be Rondo for a post scorer.

The droughts are one part teams sagging off Rondo and another part not being able to get any easy baskets down low.

Its not that rondo stops being aggressive.  It's that the D decides to turn go to this type of D when it counts.  They bear down and rondo essentially has no answer.

drives me crazy when they don't guard him and he just passes or tries to shoot - he loses his aggressiveness when the game is on the line - he quits going to the basket............

KG not taking it to Bynum and Gasol is the reason. KG is all bark and no bite unless he steps up his scoring in the paint and starts rebounding.

One more thing.  I think this explains why the other GMs don't value rondo as much as many Celtic fans.  Basically, they think he is overrated.

KG hasn't played in the paint in years and even when he was in his prime he did most of his scoring from the perimeter.  Have to accept KG for what he is, C's need his defensive energy and pick and roll defense.  They need another body down low to do what KG doesn't.

Rondo did vanish later in the game. But KG was never in the game. The only way you get rid of a young guy like Rondo is if you can get something for him. And I don't know what we could get that would be a plus for us.

A rotten log would be better then KG tonight however.

Again it's not rondo.  It's the fact that the D bears down.  So it's not like rondo can just decide to be aggressive next time.  He has no answer when the d bears down this way.  And that is infinitely worse that him not trying.

I think blaming Rondo as the sole reason we haven't won a title since 2008 is a bit much.  I think it's had more to do with injuries and a lack of size.

I do agree, though, that for an all-star, Rondo disappears (and appears utterly useless) way too much.

Agree with all of this.

Rondo is not the reason we haven't won multiple titles.  Blame KG's knee for that.

But Rondo is a maddening player to have on your team, because for 3 quarters he can play like an All-Star, and then he can turn into a very limited role player when it matters most.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Forget the all-star tag, this is a guy that some peg as a star. How successful would their respective team be if they had to hide Rose, CP3, Kobe, Durant, etc. during the clutch?
