Every time anyone calls Rondo an elite point guard, I wonder if any other elite point guards would go a whole game not being guarded at all. Sorry, but he is not yet an elite point guard. He may get there, but not yet. He is a great athlete and a unique player at his position.

I think blaming Rondo as the sole reason we haven't won a title since 2008 is a bit much.  I think it's had more to do with injuries and a lack of size.

I do agree, though, that for an all-star, Rondo disappears (and appears utterly useless) way too much.

Agreed Roy.  However, Rondo is going to take a focus of the brunt when this team struggles and he is the only C you can replace most of their productivity and bring back a worthwhile piece.

Offense is predictable in crunch time; but not sure this is Doc or Rondo.

Frankly, Rondo has peaked.  I know some will say he is still young and that he will develop a shot but it simply ain't happening.  Rondo isn't young and that shot is never getting better.

no, he doesn't disappear - i saw him give this game away way many times - i mean he's standing there dribbling, not paying attention and lets Psycho Boy just take the ball and go down and score.

the problem is he is supposed to be a "pure" point guard who runs the offense and distributes - he just dribbles and waits for somebody to pop off a screen or he penetrates with some half-baked idea in his head about where he is going with the ball, which mostly results in deflected passes, balls bouncing off teammates, passes going in the first row or some acrobatic shot attempt that Jesus couldn't make.

I love the guy, but it is kind of embarrassing that he can go a whole game without being guarded. It really is astounding. Kobe was off him by 10 feet or more the entire game and totally jammed up the middle of the paint.

Agree with all of this.

Rondo is not the reason we haven't won multiple titles.  Blame KG's knee for that.

But Rondo is a maddening player to have on your team, because for 3 quarters he can play like an All-Star, and then he can turn into a very limited role player when it matters most.

Rondo isn't the sole reason we haven't won another championship, but he has his share of the blame. Shooting 26% from the line throughout the entire finals in 2010. His passive play in the 4th quarters was just as bad as KG's lack of rebounding and scoring.

Two years later he's still the same player. He hasn't developed into a two way threat and the sag off Rondo gimmick defense still kills us in the fourth quarter. At this point my eyes are wide open and I've accepted that he is what he is. IMO, Danny should try and trade him while his value is high(although it seems he's tried and it doesn't seem to be high and is steadily dropping  :-\).

I understand that there is a lot of frustration with Rondo and how he plays (especially against LA and during the 4th quarter...) but I would love to see what he has to offer in a setting where he could do his own thing.

I think part of the problem is that ever since Ray and KG arrived, there has been this hierarchy or pecking order which dictates who has priority on offense (e.g. Big 3 then everyone else).

As a result, even though Rondo has improved tremendously, he gets caught up in that deferral mode at times (see avoiding getting to the line) and it just takes away from what he can bring to the table.

I believe that it's too late to move one of the Big 4 this season and that it would only end up in a catastrophe if a move were made.

I am just happy that they won it all in their first year together and understand that this could be the last season seeing this group together.

I'd love to package him for Deron Williams.  DWill has a Celtic attitude.

If I'm Ainge I am on the phone all the way up to the trade deadline with every single team in the league trying to get some size and low post scoring for Rondo.

I've never been a Rondo fan. For all the nice plays that he makes, he makes a dumb one to turn the ball over. Why does he run into the lane, just to try a pass that gets turned over? Because he doesn't want to get to the free throw line cause he can't shoot free throws. He dribbles the ball around way too much waiting for people to get open and cannot make defenses respect him cause he'll never be able to shoot.

All we need is a PG who can handle the ball, share running the offense with Paul Pierce and can keep defenses honest with shooting. We don't need what Rondo brings to the team.
