I am all for cutting Daniels loose (he really looks cooked), but I would prefer to hold onto the roster spot in case we wanted to do a 2 for 1 deal, or if there are any better buyouts. Weems is not the kind of player you need to jump on.
Fair enough. I like Weems' potential, and I think Doc could get him to play defense. I agree on the 2 for 1 trade thing, but I don't see anyone better than Weems getting bought out and coming here (that excludes Kaman of course).
The problem with guys like Weems is that while they have potential, the chances of them picking up the system and being able to contribute when they come in midseason are very slim.
They can always pick him up in the offseason if they see that potential, but right now, they should be focussing on guys they are confident can step in quickly and produce if needed.
I'm pretty much on board with all of your statements, but I do feel like we could use a guy on the 2nd unit who can get his own shot and possibly create for others. I guess you could play Pierce or Rondo with the 2nd unit more, but that would really run up their minutes.
While I agree with you, there are a couple things I would add.
First, I think come playoff time, there will be rarely a time when either Rondo or Pierce is not on the floor. Doc will make sure at least one of them is always out there to handle the ball.
Second, I agree that their biggest need right now (other than maybe an upgrade at center, which will be hard to come by) is another shot creator on the second unit. However, I don't think an eratic guy like Weems is the answer right now.
One of the biggest reasons for this current run (along with the defense) is that they have simplified the offense, and eliminated a lot of the mistakes. They win by out executing the other teams. I think they need to stick with that identity, and if they do add another shot-creator, they need to be someone who fits into that, rather than a wild-card like Weems.
Or, if they were going to go after an explosive player, I would much rather go after Al Thornton, who is just as explosive offensively, but also has shown better chops defensively, and a toughness that the C's would covet.
