Don't need to break up Amare and Melo ... just need to build a supporting cast that complements Amare and Melo better than the current Knicks' supporting cast does.

A little more playmaking, more depth and a better head coach.

D'Antoni isn't the issue. And I wouldn't support sacking a proven winner that still has his players' loyalty. He does need a true point guard to run his offense. Whether that point guard is Jeremy Lin remains to be seen.

D'Antoni should have been fired the second they made that trade for Carmelo Anthony last year.

He is a roster specific coach who has proven himself incapable of maximizing that team's collection of talent. Both when Billups was there and this season with Tyson Chandler.

The Knicks would be better off with a JVG type ... someone who can better harness the Knicks collective defensive and rebounding potential.

I'd protest whoever pulled the trigger on the trade should've been fired the day before they did.

That would be the owner ... and I disagree. It was a good trade for NY.

Yes, but not because Melo was a bad acquisition, but because if they'd waited, it would've cost less, and allowed them to retain more.

Or, Denver would have traded Melo to New Jersey and Melo would have re-signed to make sure he got himself that big pre-CBA contract extension that Melo wanted so badly.

It would've cost less, or the Nets would've outbid them and they would've gotten Deron Williams.

It's certainly with the benefit of being able to see how things played out, but if you'd ask me today if I think the Knicks were better off with Melo than Gallinari, Chandler, Mozgov and Felton (at 7.5 mil, bu you could've amnestied him) I'd have to take the latter.

Denver might have traded Melo to NJ, but he flatly said he wasn't re-signing there. I don't think he would have either. Deron Williams is proving that nobody can be bullied into signing a contract they genuinely don't want to sign.

If I recall correctly, sources were pretty conflicted there.

Not to mention this 1st round of this draft is the quickest and most extreme change in value of the players being picked.

It starts out as "all-star" and quickly drops to "good player"

Which is why you should get in your offers for Joe Johnson now.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't think you're recalling correctly, at least not the denouement. Towards the end, it was pretty obvious that Melo was saying he flat out would resign with NY, but wouldn't with NJ, and NJ was saying they'd call his bluff. They lied.

EDIT: You are right though in some ways, for a really long time Melo either no-commented it, or was vaguely 'focusing on basketball'. Only at the end was it leaked that he said he flat out 'wouldn't sign anywhere but NY'.
