Don't need to break up Amare and Melo ... just need to build a supporting cast that complements Amare and Melo better than the current Knicks' supporting cast does.

It would've cost less, or the Nets would've outbid them and they would've gotten Deron Williams.

It's certainly with the benefit of being able to see how things played out, but if you'd ask me today if I think the Knicks were better off with Melo than Gallinari, Chandler, Mozgov and Felton (at 7.5 mil, bu you could've amnestied him) I'd have to take the latter.

Not to mention this 1st round of this draft is the quickest and most extreme change in value of the players being picked. 


It starts out as "all-star" and quickly drops to "good player"

I don't think you're recalling correctly, at least not the denouement. Towards the end, it was pretty obvious that Melo was saying he flat out would resign with NY, but wouldn't with NJ, and NJ was saying they'd call his bluff. They lied. 

EDIT: You are right though in some ways, for a really long time Melo either no-commented it, or was vaguely 'focusing on basketball'. Only at the end was it leaked that he said he flat out 'wouldn't sign anywhere but NY'.
