Phoenix trades Lopez and Childress (drops a bad 4 year contract)

Interesting trade for teams involved.

Might need another small asset heading to Cleveland. That Childress contract is pretty long. Not sure a late first will be enough to seal that deal. Might need another equivalent asset. Maybe that early second round pick Danny got from the Erden deal and some cash.

Its an intriguing deal.  I agree with Who that the Childress contract might be a lot for Cleveland to handle just for a late first round pick...but then again, I would not be surprised if a change of scenery could help him be worth his contract.

That Phoenix franchise is a mess, and it seems to have hurt a lot of younger guys like Childress and Pietrus, as much as it has helped old guys like Hill and Shaq.

Interesting, Phoenix might want to add a little spice on this though, maybe a 2nd rounder.

But since we are here, I'd trade JO + worse 1st for Lopez + Phoenix 2nd.

I think Phoenix says no because it doesn't clear a bad contract.

I wouldn't do that deal. Gibson would take away some of our space next year and I don't value Lopez much more than JO (more likely to be healthy, but similarly weak offensively and mediocre as a rebounder).  Not worth it.

Dooling and the worst of our picks would be my best offer for Lopez.

This one is interesting to me. I like it for the Celtics, because Lopez is a better bet to stay healthy and is at least the same level as JO or better. Gibson is a player that likely be better than Dooling at playing off ball and hitting open threes off the bench. I also like it for the Suns, getting rid of the Childress contract and for Cleveland getting a first.

However, I'm not sure it matches up best for the other teams. I would think Phoenix would either look for an asset in return for Childress in the form of a draft pick or would just amnesty him outright. My best guess is that they would explore an option to trade Nash and dump Childress with him first. The Cavs might also be unwilling to take on a long term deal, and instead package Varejao for the picks they would seemingly covet.

Leaves Phoenix the ability to amnesty another bad contract.  (Frye comes to mind now)

Fair enough. I like the idea in general, which is good enough for trade ideas.  ;D

They'd have a pick upgrade. JO and Robin does is not really far ahead of each other when it comes to value. Robin is younger though, but were giving a 1st rounder for him.

Because it is not a great 1st round pick.
