I'll trade for Kaman if we can move JO and a pick
I'm actually not sure if I would move JO for Kaman and a pick.
fair enough, but could you explain more about why you wouldnt? i am not convinced kaman is worth tying up payroll and trading away anyone important.
I should say that I'd probably make the trade if the pick had a chance of being in the lottery and wouldn't if the pick was a likely late first-round pick acquired from another team.
I'm not convinced that Kaman is an upgrade on O'Neal. I suspect that, if both are healthy, O'Neal is actually still a better player and I am not sure that Kaman is more likely to be healthy for the playoffs. I'm certain JO's a better defender. Statistically, he's still a slightly better shot-blocker than Kaman. If Kaman were somehow bought out and signed as by the Celtics, I would probably still start O'Neal over Kaman, but Kaman would certainly help by eating up enough minutes to make JO a viable option for the crunch time lineup if Doc wants more size.
If you were trying to maximize team wins for this season, I don't think replacing O'Neal with Kaman will do it because of the steep learning curve that mid-season acquisitions coming to Boston have typically faced in trying to integrate into the system.
