If Ainge decides to break-up the Big 4, I believe this could be an interesting avenue:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=89y5lam

In addition to the attached, Daniels would go to IND (where he's known and liked) and the worse of Cs 1sts in 2012 goes to CLE. To me, it makes some significant sense for each team.

IND: Rondo's a nice fit in IND. Rondo, Jones, Pierce, West, Hibbert with Dooling, Hill, Daniels, Hansbrough and Foster / Amunson off the bench could be special;

CLE: Gets two excellent young players to build around with Irving. Bass likely opts of his deal but could stay with Cleveland if they enjoy each others company this season;

BOS: A really nice rebuilding core with George, Varajeo, Collison, JJJ, Bradley, Moore,  a better draft pick in the next draft, and a HUGE amount of cap space this summer. Get Howard and Williams to both sign... yes, you could make a real pitch to them both with that group and Doc, particularly if Ray and or KG would stay on the cheap to compete for another title. If not, use the space wisely ala OKC to build a terrific squad over the next 2-3 years.

By the way, I'd like to see a number of members of this year's team stay long term, namely Pietrus and Pavolvic. I'd also like to see Ray sign with the team for another year or two.

Thoughts?

Indiana and Cleveland

No way Cleveland says no.  They give up Jamison + Varejao and get back Granger + Bass!!  They get back a FAR better player than any of the ones they give up.  And a guy who can take some of the scoring load off of Irving.

I think Indy says no.  They are really putting it together with a young group that should be able to sustain and continue to improve on their current performance.  Why mess with that?

I think Indy is giving up too much in this deal to be honest

So you're trading two top 25 players that happen to be both of your franchise players for Varejao, George, and Collison?

Nooooooo thanks.

Actually a good over all trade. I dont think the Cs would have to send a draft pick to cleveland, they make out really well. Indiana would be the only team to gripe as they really blow up there current team. They need to have picks sent there way.

The only problem with this trade is in throws us right into the rebuild fire with George being the only allstar potential on the team. Free agents aren't likely to jump at the opportunity to play with these guys. At least by keeping Rondo for the rebuild other elite players will see him as a reason to join the Cs.

I believe you're right. The most likely team to say 'no' is Indiana -- giving up George and Granger together is very tough. But Indiana has been kicking tires on Rondo for months, and they need a player like him to be a true contender. I also think there's a tendency to undervalue Pierce because he's not 25 -- he's still a great, hugely versatile player and a leader. I think it balances their team from position to position, and dramatically improves their championship hopes over the next two seasons.

I would never do that deal, but I would love to find a way to get Varajeo here.  I love that kids game.  You'd need a 3rd team to make it work, and obviously you'd need more than just Verajeo, but I think it could be done if we would be willing to part with Rondo.  I would do it in a second.

Indiana gets the two best players in the deal. The Celts should say no asap on that.

Only works I think if we really believe in Ainge rebuilding from scratch around Howard (and Howard wanting to come here of course). We could move Varejao in a S&T for Howard, sign Deron and go "all in" around those two through 2017, but we'd really have to be hoping some of our young players develop.

Deron Williams / Avery Bradley
E'Twaun Moore
Paul George
JJJ
Howard

Perhaps with a couple more vets and a decent pick in the draft that could work, but we're starting out extremely thin. Big gamble on the future of the youngin's.

I will say this, that would be a helluva 1 year makeover.

No need to S&T anyone -- Cs would have less than $17mil in salary commitments next year (before rookie deals and min vet salary holds). Plenty of room for 2 max FAs.

I don't think they do, because while they could really use a distributor on that team, it defeats the purpose to give up both George and Granger. Now Rondo is passing to West and Hibbert.

Here's a modified version which basically makes the Bill Simmons trade, and then swaps Rondo for George + Collison:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7pnozjo

Rondo to IND
George, Collison, Jamison, Varejao to BOS
Allen, O'Neal, Jones, 2 1st rounders to CLE

Cleveland gets a couple of picks for Varejao.
Indiana gets Rondo for George (and unloads Collison who won't stay as a backup)
Boston gets Varejao, George and Collison and is in about the same cap situation next year.

New lineups:

BOS
Collison
George
Pierce
Garnett
Varejao

IND
Rondo
Hill
Granger
West
Hibbert

CLE
Irving
Allen
Casspi
Tristan Thompson
O'Neal / Erden
+ 2 more picks on the way
