Yeah, I thought about packaging JO with Ray so we could keep Dooling and not have rooks as the primary back ups.

In this case if we couldn't re-sign Ray, as that loophole has been closed, I'd be hesitant.

Hypothetically though, I think a lineup of:

Okafor / Wilcox / Stiemsma
KG / Bass / JJJ
Pierce / Pietrus / Sasha
Ray / Marquis / Moore
Rondo / Dooling / Bradley

would be a very tough out indeed.

I like Pierce and Pietrus vs LeBron
I like Ray and Marquis / Pietrus vs LeBron

You could throw Bass / Wilcos on Joel Anthony and give Bosh a mouthful of Okafor and KG every night.

It doesn't really work for me though, if I can't get Ray back.

The thought sounds good, until next season when Okafor limits us from dealing with free agents. Id rather have Ray come off the books than be stuck with Okafor and nothing else for the next couple seasons.

Pass.  Okafor is undersized and a tweener.
career averages of 10 rebounds and nearly two blocks. one of the most intelligent defenders in the game.
i'd say he would have a healthy impact on the 2012 celtics.

would be thrilled to have him on the team even at the cost of ray.

stop saying undersized all the time, perk is the same height as okafor it's all about strength defense and the ability to rebound.

so as for this deal i would do it in a heart beat

Quick question that's sort of related.  But is a player allowed to veto a trade? (I was thinking along the lines of possible Dwight Howard trades)

No.

He is overpayed.  He doesn't improve the Celtics chances this year vs. Ray.

He isn't the rebuilding block you want going forward.

No, we're not going to contend while he's still a useful player if we don't bring in a big impact player. Using cap space on him will hurt us in getting such a player if its possible at all.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He couldn't play for us this year.

Starting five would be

ROndo,
KG
Pierce
Pietrus
Okafor

pretty nasty starting 5 to me.

We lose scoring from Ray, but get tougher inside and get more points inside from Okafor than JO would give us.
Probably give up less points in the paint against teams like the Heat.
Make our lives easier against Chicago in the playoffs too inside.
Question is could Pietrus get us 15 ppg and not get re injured...?
I'd actually consider doing this, if Okafor were on a one year deal like Kaman.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
