Ray and Dooling for Okafor.

Ray gets bought out - re-signs with Celtics for playoff run.

If you think this team, when healthy, has a legit shot at one last run, which i do, adding Okafor to our interior defense would push us over the top in my opinion. And if understood Ray would be bought out and come back after 30 days or whatever the holding period is, why not?

Okafor / O'Neal / Wilcox
KG / Bass / JJJ
Pierce / Pietrus /
Ray / Marquis / E'twaun
Rondo / Bradley / E'twaun

Orleans knocks one year of Okafor's salary off their books.
For us, we could trade Okafor in the off season as and expiring contract.

Even if he stayed for one additional year, it would not prevent us from signing one max guy, if available, in the off season.

I don't think Ray could return to the Celtics during the current season. I think the new CBA closed that loophole.

No, probably not.  I don't think it would really put us over the top as a contender, even if it made us a better team (I'm not really sure that it would).  Moving forward, it would hurt our cap flexibility for this off-season.

Having Okafor on the books would likely prevent us from spending money on a younger center we'd rather have long term for less money (e.g. Mahinmi).

So you basically want NO to give us Okafor for nothing, then pay 10 mil to Ray Allen so we could resign him right away?

Yeah, sound like a good deal for NO.

Yeah, if Ray couldn't come back , I wouldn't want to do it and cap issue is critical.

Okafor on the Celts always interested me though, particularly paired with KG.

It doesn't work like that. You make the trade, they save money on the buy out and also save themselves a second year of Okafor's contract, in the neighborhood of 12 Mil. It's a cap move for them. They are going to ahve to pay Ray OR Okafor this year. And if Okafor isn't in their long term plans, why NOT make that move for them?

For us, it would only be worth it, if you thought adding Okafor to our cast of bigs would give us enough to bang well with the other teams in the east.

There's no guarantee we could resign Ray or even if it would be permitted.  Not sure about the money but I'd rather do Ray and JO than Dooling simply because I don't want the primary backup to Rondo in the playoffs to be Avery Bradley.

it's not permitted.

Hornets would probably need to include a draft pick anyways... that contract is terrible.

Instead of Ray, Celtics could bundle JO, Wilcox, Steimsma, and Moore.

Keep Ray and Dooling, and consolidate the frontcourt depth into a center who can be relied on for 25-30 minutes a night.

However, I'd bet that NO would want a draft pick or two in exchange.

At the same time, he's probably pretty moveable. He's a good defensive center with a pretty capeable offensive game. That's something any contenders going to want.

No way!  Wouldn't make us much better now and locks up cap space that could be better spent down the road.

With the cap space, I ask people to think of the alternatives not just the fact that it does indeed lock up our space. Outside of the super-duperstars I kinda think Okafor could be the best option. I certainly would rather him on the Celtics going forward than an OJ Mayo type.

Yeah, sound like a good deal for NO.

I'm not saying what NO wants, but if they decide that they don't want to be paying Okafor for the last 2 years of his contract, they'll probably have to give up an asset or two to unload him.

Pass.  Okafor is undersized and a tweener.
