I think that deal could make some sense for both sides, although I think Orlando would have to be totally confident in the structural integrity of Amare's knees.  He hasn't been very good so far this season.

Have the Knicks throw in Fields or Shumpert and have the Magic add Ryan Anderson and it could be a very solid deal for both sides, all things considered.

This trade gives them the best shot as a win now team who are committed to being over the cap for years to come even without Howard's salary.

I'd definitely take the Bulls' package, but I don't think the Bulls are going to try to trade for Dwight.  They already have an elite team.

I think the Lakers will ultimately offer Gasol and Bynum with the willingness to take on Hedo, and unless the Magic are committed to keeping Dwight this season, that's the best deal they'll get.

Here is my LA-denial reaction.  Gasol and Bynum would not make the Magic into a contender in the near term, and Gasol will be old soon.

In addition, I am not sure Bynum is looking like someone who will dominate.  He came out the gate on fire averaging about 22 & 16 in his 1st 4 games.  In the last 13 games he is averaging a very solid 14 & 11.  Don't get me wrong, I think he is very good, but he is on the court with 2 guys who demand frequent double-teams and he is getting stats comparable to Greg Monroe, Gortat, Marc Gasol and Hibbert.  Bottom line is that Lopez might be better and NJ's draft picks are likely to be much better.

I'm not so sure of that. Miami and Chicago have been kinda gearing up to play each other, but they could have some real issues with the size those two would present. If they're healthy, I think they could put in a good run.

I would go for the Chicago deal... Getting Noah, Deng, and Gibson along with a first would be a more than great return... Mine in order.

1) Chicago
2) NYK
3) LAL
4)LAC
5) NJ
6) Boston

No deal with Dallas? I would put a Dallas option on the table.

You know, Amare + Chandler sounded like a dream combination at the time, but in actual practice, it hasn't been that great.  Part of Amare's decline is sharing the ball with Carmelo, but moving him to PF full-time also takes away a lot of his offensive mismatches and pushes him away from the post.

Of the rumored deals, I guess I'd go with the New Jersey package, if only because it gives the Magic the most flexibility moving forward.  Otis Smith has really screwed up the Magic's post-Dwight future, but getting Lopez + Humphries + Brooks + a top-10 #1 is a pretty solid return for a guy destined to hit free agency.

I like that better than the Bulls package just because Noah (or Boozer) and Deng have big, long-term contracts that lock the Magic into mediocrity for at least two or three more seasons.

I think you're right that the New Jersey deal probably makes the most sense for the Magic if they want to go into rebuilding, but I have a feeling that if Otis Smith trades Dwight, it will be with the hope of continuing to compete for a playoff spot.

He doesn't want to get fired, and the Magic are a small market team so continuing to be relevant is important for their bottom line.

That's why I think ultimately he'll deal with the Lakers, or perhaps the Knicks if Amare can prove he's healthy and still dominant.

This is exactly right.

I also think that if Chicago was given the chance to take Howard for those players, they would jump on it. A team with Rose+ Howard would be amazing. Maybe get cheeky and ask for Ryan Anderson instead of Turk (if the salaries still work), and give them Asik as well.

starting 5
*Howard
*Boozer
*Anderson ( have him play the 3 or swap him with Rip and have him running off screens all day)
*Hamilton
*Rose.

But the Nets package lets them rebuild with a potential superstar in the draft and some young solid pieces to work with.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

Wonder if Chicago could create a trade exception to make a good 1 year offer at Wilson Chandler for the stretch run.

Yeah the lack of space to work with is killing Amar'es offensive effectiveness. Its shocking how less efficient he's been playing at PF.

Too many jumpers and not enough P&R, cuts, or drives to the basket.

I don't think they'll want any part of Amar'e even if he surges before the deadline (which I doubt at this point)

I think New Jersey, but I voted for the Lakers

That is if the Lakers are really offering Bynum and Gasol (as I heard from some ESPN analyst a couple months ago) I'd take it if I'm the Magic. Say Howard + Anderson + fillers to make salaries match. I doubt the Magic would agree with Bynum + World Peace.

That frontline of Turkgolu, who's playing pretty good right now, Gasol and Bynum, all the rebounds belong to the Magic. Run Turk as point forward. Make Gasol run pick and pops. Then throw in to Bynum in the post.

Plus with all the shooters Orlando has, the paint would be pretty much be having just the forwards and centers, since the others have to keep close with the shooters. Gasol and Bynum are good offensive rebounders.

Let Dwight play with Kobe.

I can't watch the Magic because I absolutely hate their brand of basketball, but has Hedo Turkoglu actually been playing well? I know he's the type of player who does things as far as ball movement, and that doesn't show up in the stats.

Agreed with your take that the NJ trade looks the best.

These seem like the most likely trades to teams Howard said he would be open to playing with. I ran them all through the trade checker so they work for the most part, might have to add some filler here and there.

Orl sends :Dwight + BBD
NJ  sends :Okur(exp),Humphries(exp),Marshon Brooks, Lopez ,
              2012 pick(likely 5-10)

Orl sends: Dwight+ Hedo
Chi sends: Noah, Deng, Gibson and future 1st

Orl sends: Dwight
Lac sends: Jordan, Bledsoe, Mo Williams and 2 future 1sts

Orl sends: Dwight, Jameer
Bos sends: Rondo, KG and 2 1st's in 2012(likely 18-25)

Orl sends: Dwight and Hedo
LAL sends: Bynum, Artest , filler and future 1st

Orl sends: Dwight + Hedo
NYK sends: Amare + Chandler

I think I would have to go with the NJ trade. You get a 20 point scorer at the center spot( I know he's soft) , Brooks a young wing that can fill it up and has some upside, get rid of BBD contract while picking up a solid starter in Humphries who you can resign or let walk and you get a top 5-10 pick in next years deep draft .

Which one would you do ?

Celtics fan for life.

He started the season with some hot shooting (as did most of the Magic shooters, I'd add -- which contributed to their great record) but has cooled off since then.

The Magic haven't exactly gotten substantially worse as a team since their start -- more accurately, they were playing above themselves at the beginning because their main shooters (Reddick, Turk, Anderson) were shooting the lights out at an unsustainable pace.  Since they've fallen back to earth, the team has regressed to the mean.
