its kind of a good problem to have, but I think once Dooling comes back to the lineup we have sort of a logjam at the backup 1/2 spot.

obviously Pietrus' play makes him top backup for the 2/3...

and IMO with a little more playing time I think Moore can give us pretty much what dooling is giving us...6ppg and some solid decision making.

but we know how doc loves his vets, and dooling has that veteran experience, and was shooting very well before the injury

then we have Bradley who hasnt exactly come around offensively but is really playing some inspired defense

Well, given all the back to backs and condensed schedule, for once, I think we might see Doc go 11 and 12 deep in some games.

Furthermore, I could also see Doc playing Dooling and Bradley or Dooling and Moore together at the 1/2 at the expense of Marquis Daniels's PT.

I suppose if I had to pick one combination, I'd go with Dooling and Bradley.  Dooling provides the shooting Moore would and Bradley brings the heat defensively.

As long as Pierce or Daniels is out there to handle the ball, I don't really care.

I'd say it's either dooling or Moore.

Dooling provides vet. decision making, a proven outside shot, and good defense.

Moore provides a spark or energy, a rounded offensive game, and possibly as good defense as dooling. Also playing Moore has the added bonus of developing a player that may have a place here in the future.

Bradley provides great defense, but is a negative on offense. He can't shoot himself or create for others. When the other two options are capable on both ends of the floor, I dont see a reason to go with someone who is only good at 1...especially when Bradleys defense depends so much on how the refs call the game.  If they call hand checking, his defense can get us in foul trouble for nothing.

After seeing how much better the offense looked with PP helping to run the offense, I dont want to see dooling/Bradley ever again.  That combination had absolutely no offense.

Knowing Doc, most of the minutes are going to Dooling.  That is just what kind of a coach Doc is, he plays the experienced guys.
But I think these last few games, Bradley and Moore have impressed Doc and given him some confidence in them.  So I expect to see them in the rotation as well.
Doc's a good coach; he'll figure out a way to get guys on the floor.

Doc has been known to favor the hot hand so I think Moore will continue to get minutes until he falters.  We've seen guys like House, TA, BBD, Marquis, Nate play their way in and out of the dog house with Doc.  Also we've seen some pretty crazy small ball lineups this year with 3 guards so that could happen as well.  But I suspect there will be less of that going forward with Pietrus in tow.

As Capricious says, the ballhandling duties will go to Pierce/Daniels, and then, in a smaller rate, to those three guys, who will share minutes depending on matchups or the flow of the game.

I like how Doc is shaping rotations, putting the pressure on the perimeter D. I can see that until Playoff time, where he'll probably play Rondo (who will be healthy and rested) almost 48 minutes a game. The rare minutes when Rondo isn't on the court I can see Quisy being the first backup point guard, with Dooling playing the 2 and Pietrus the 3, in a 9/10 player rotation (depending on JO's status):

Rondo/Quisy
Ray/Dooling/
Captain/Pietrus
KG/Bass
JO/Wilcox

Looking forward, Bradley could end being the backup PG, with all the confidence he's getting. I see Moore as an off-guard and scoring machine. While his BBIQ and maturity makes him look as a pretty good prospect at PG, if he keeps improving his shoot and defense he could even start at the 2, a role for which he's better suited (just my opinion).

Must be frustrating to be JJ at this point, watching everyone else get in on the action.

Wouldn't surprise me if AB's being groomed for trade bait, EM as a keeper, though they're both at least reasonably pleasant surprises from what I was anticipating last summer.

I think Bradley's defense is the best single skill from the meager assortment that Bradley, Dooling and Moore bring to the table. Problem is playing with Pierce or Rondo is the only way to cover for his weaknesses (and playing with Rondo decreases some of his defensive value if the other team has some size in the backcourt).

Thus I would assume that Dooling's blend of streaky shooting, decent defense (better than Moore) and relative veteran calm.  That said, a prolonged cold spell from Dooling could bring one of the young guys back in.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

When everyone is healthy I expect Moore to fall out of the rotation. Dooling has been shooting very well at 41% from the 3 when he was playing so I expect him to be part of our regular rotation. He's not a pg, but neither is Moore or Bradley at this point. Marquis and Bradley will battle is out for the other backup guard spot. Probably will depend on match-ups though.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Doc Rivers is the coach.
He's going with the veteran.
That's Dooling.

Moore won't get any time.
Bradley might get 8-10 minutes against the Bulls guarding Rose or against Chalmers to help stop them getting into sets.

bench will be(in this order of minutes)
Bass ( could be starting come playoff time/JO's injury status)
Pietrus
Dooling
Wilcox
Quis
Steimsma
---------following guys won't likely see the floor much if at all in playoffs:

Bradley
Moore
Pav(may go up higher in the playoffs when Doc panics and needs veteran experience to ease his nerves.)
JJJ= victory cigar.

Great question. I think it should go to Bradley.

Bradley isn't a great dribbler and gets confused on offense. But he usually seems to have the right idea and may develop into a semi-competent offensive PG. He's already outstanding on D with his energy and aggression.

Dooling has been a solid contributor but he can't run our offense. I thought maybe he would become a distributor since he's slowed down but he's just a less explosive version of his old self. It's like having a worse version of Nate Robinson.

Moore has shown better passing instincts than either guy and might be the best shooter already. He dribbles high, has a lot to improve on and doesn't give you the D that Bradley does. He might end up a good backup but he's just not there yet and I doubt he will get there this year.

Assuming Rondo and Allen look completely healthy around the trade deadline, would you hate it if Ainge dumped Dooling off to a team that suffered a guard injury and needed a warm body for something like a future second round pick and used the roster spot to pick up his usual waiver/buy-out guy (perhaps for center depth behind Jermaine O'Neal)?

With everyone healthy, I'd lean towards Avery as the primary substitution for Rondo.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson
