TNT panel guys just picked Doc as the best coach in the league. Barkley said it then Shaq emphatically agreed. Then Kenny came around and agreed.

Barkley remembered Popovich and pushed Doc to #2. Shaq still likes Doc.

This is great to hear..  Sometimes I wonder about Doc's x's and o's but to hear that from all those guys including Shaq who emphatically agreed is huge considering he played under the Zen Master.

Doc's charm seems to be his biggest asset.  Hope he is nice to Dhoward when he is at his home in Orlando this summer..

Kinda off topic, but what's everyone's take on Shaq with the TNT crew?  He makes me a little uncomfortable.

Shaq is bad. I have always felt he is not funny. He is just a clown. He is not clever like Barkley, Smith, and Johnson.

Webber was much better. He is far more natural and relaxed. Shaq is also not at all insightful. I'm not against giving him time to get accustomed to his role, but he needs to improve or hit the road.

The studio should have guys who are coach quality. Not guys who rely on physical comedy for easy laughs.

Right.  I like Shaq.  He seems like a fun guy.  But on that show he feels really awkward.  If ever there was NBA player whose analysis I least respected, it would have to be Shaq.  Has there ever been a guy who relied more on his freak physical nature more than him?  There are countless guys whose opinion I'd rather listen to than Shaq.  Not discrediting his career in any way, but has anyone ever called Shaq a "smart" or "savvy" player?  Did anyone ever watch him play and say, "Wow... that guy is going to be a coach some day".  He overpowered people and destroyed them with size.  His opinion on basketball matters is irrelevant to me.

I cannot believe that I ever advocated firing Doc Rivers in the 2006 and 2007 season during that 18 game losing streak. What the hell was I thinking  ???
The beatings will continue until morale improves

He's new. Im sure he will fall into a role and become more comfortable and more insightful with his time on the panel as he continues to get more screen time. I havent watched enough TNT this season to give full judgement on how I feel about him.

I think Doc is a great motivator, but he doesn't have the greatest substitution patterns nor does he handle PT consistently well.

He's a little bit Grady Little in the PT aspect, he kinda gives in to his players even when there may be better options available.

I agree on the substitution patterns.  I think overall he is a good coach which just means his strong areas far outweigh his shortcomings.

That being said, isn't it a little weird that he has to resort to playing KG in 5 minute stretches in order to keep his minutes normal?  Should he be able to manage his minutes based on needs in the game?  Whatever, it's working as of late.

Same. C-Webb was amazing, why didn't they just stick with him???

The Zen Master isn't a coach in this league anymore.
